An Overweight/Obese person in Essex (Billericay) looking to start Airsoft

Welcome to the forum buddy. Couldn't agree more with this, get yourself along and you'll be pissed you didnt do it sooner!4 points -
Welcome to the forum and airsoft, you will love it, it's great fun and a chance to met some really nice people. We just played at Skirmish Billiericay site for the first time this weekend and it's a great site with a good mix of game types and is well marshalled. They also have a great selection of kit and accessories onsite to hire or buy so you shouldn't need to worry about gear for your first game, other than a some decent foot ware with ankle supp if possible? On the whole once the games get going everyone is really friendly and up for in game banter and laughs without taking it all too seriously.3 points

Welcome to the forum and to a hobby that will occupy a lot of your thoughts and loads of your bank balance. As others have said, airsofters are generally a very welcoming and friendly bunch. Everyone has been the noob at some point, and even now going to a new site can bring back that same feeling. The main thing to remember is that everyone there has a common interest, so you've got a natural start point to strike up a conversation. Airsofters also love showing off their gear and most will happily pass on their experiences, tips and advice to make sure you enjoy your day and want to come back. As for fitness/experience, don't worry about it. Play your own game until you're comfortable and confident enough to step things up. Additional cardio exercises will help as you progress, and, because there's a lot of crouching and ducking behind objects, get some stretches and leg exercises in. Yoga is awesome for easing the effects of Elvis leg the day after a game, especially for those of us built more for comfort than for speed. Above all, have fun. Keep jumping into the forum as there is loads of helpful advice here, and don't be afraid to ask questions.3 points

Wow, that's a weird one. I mean, he has actually modified it rather than just chucking a bucking in, but he's ended up with a gun that's too weak for woodland, and too auto for CQB. However, I think my favourite bit is posting a video of a different gun.3 points

go at your own pace. go light weight with gear and make sure you have good boots with ankle support.2 points

No one is going to care if you are husky at an Airsoft game. Yes, you might get a few comments, but that's going to be the same in pretty much any situation you will find yourself in. Nothing can be done about that and needs to be risen above. As long as you get stuck in and take your hits, you will find new friends. Simple as that really. Side note, most of us are rocking dad bods anyway. We aren't all chizzled action heroes2 points

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger
RostokMcSpoons reacted to Stevobeavo for a topic
There are M4 and pdw stock variants then polymer and metal versions of the same guns. I love my 904g, 229mm zci barrel, maple leaf bucking and omega nub from ak2m4 made a big difference.1 point -

al DE's are the same motor, gearbox, hop and inner barrel although the inner barrel will vary in length depending on the AEG. So there are no differences and you will be picking the one that you like the look of the best or the addition of metal parts to replace the plastic parts on other models. A longer barrel should give you a small FPS boost which will give a slightly longer range but not much to be honest. Being accurate at longer range is probably more important. it's ok flinging a bb 55m but its no use if its' off target by 2 meters. Using heavier BB's will also give you a range increase. A lot of people on this thread use ZCI barrels and Maple Leaf hop rubbers to get better range but for me the standard barrel with a S hop and .32g BB's has the same effect.1 point -
Or go the other route. Go heavy, loaded plate carrier, belt line, helmet, back pack etc. Rock a support gun with extra ammo. Under your winter BDU's, wrap your entire body in clingfilm and really sweat out those calories.1 point

I must have suffered a bump on the head at work because I was considering getting back into 40k. I used to play after school (shit.....22 years ago) for a while but then I found girls and just painted in secret ?? I thought it might make a nice winter hobby doing a bit of painting but I decided against it in the end. After adding up all the money I intended on spending on miniatures, paint and the time, I could get some pretty sweet pew pew things and just play the new Age of Empires 4 instead!! My mate Dave still paints and has been featured in white dwarf a number of times over the past 20 years! He is good! ?1 point

No better feeling than when someone does a quick spin to look for you before they shout hit and clearly don't have a scooby where you are!1 point -

This is pretty common, but it's a very welcoming environment. We had a thread on this a while back with a really great post covering what to expect in some detail, which can help with social anxiety. So many hugs in that thread. Your fitness / fatness level is neither here nor there. If you can walk, you can play. Heck, folk play in wheelchairs. What I would note is that a couple of hours of actual action every fortnight isn't really going to do much for your health, but it will give you something to train for if you're that way inclined.1 point

Best of luck pal, I am certain you'll have fun on your first day playing airsoft! I remember my first time heading to the skirmish site (wasn't this long ago), went all by myself all anxious and not quite knowing what to expect only to find out just how friendly and approachable my local community is! I have also made 2 friends pretty much on the spot by having a spontaneous chat prior to the game starting, ended up playing along both all day and only to join them for basically every game ever since. Plus skirmishes are indeed a great way of maintaining a decent level of physical activity - in my case giving me a dopamine kick after a week of home based work behind my desk ?1 point -
Hi fella and welcome to the big boys playground.? As already said you will love it and airsofters are generally a very friendly bunch willing and eager to impart their knowledge and expertise for free. Nobody will care about how you look, what kit you have or your ability to run a 100yd dash in 10 seconds or take out a whole team before lunch. Get yourself out there and you will soon overcome any shyness and nerves ? Take things at a pace that you find comfortable and after a while I'm sure your fitness levels will improve. I'm no spring chicken and not gonna break any records for agility (I could, however, break hundreds if i sat on them lol) but I pay my money and that means I play as I want to and that way I get more enjoyment without any pressure. Play and have fun?? Regards Ps.I like a beer as well ?1 point

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Badgerlicious reacted to Impulse for a topic
After the MP7 and the HK45, I said I wasn't buying anything else. I would've stuck to it, but I was given an offer I couldn't refuse. £280 for this beast, now I just need the mags to come back in stock somewhere so I can get a bunch of spares, because 35 BBs isn't enough. Come on, Tokyo Marui, get some more mags out! ? Fired it on the range today and I'm never going back to AEGs. It was so much fun to shoot!1 point -

There are all sorts of systems available with varying complexities in just about any setting (fantasy, historical, science fiction, naval, aircraft, spaceships) and scales from pub punch-ups to Waterloo. The best systems let you concentrate on actual tactics and putting yourself in the position of a commander, while Games Workshop stuff is much more about meta-gaming to exploit an ever changing set of special rules and trick units, then setting up and rolling huge handfuls of dice without much by the way of actual decisions or tactics once you're playing. You can play at home, the problem these days is finding folk near you to play with who are interested in the same settings and systems as you. That's where Games Workshop shines, they have retail shops and run tournaments where you can use the hugely expensive models that they sold you, and God help you if you try and bring anything else. You could jump on... urgh... Facebook and see if there are any Localtown wargaming / tabletop clubs. True that, I once reduced a grown man to tears in a tournament by exploiting the hell out of Epic with a force composed entirely of cheap Scout Marine companies and Thunderhawk dropships (part played by de-bladed Micro Machines Apache helicopters from the local toy shop). He deploys. My whole army is off table. Turn 1, Thunderhawks drop from orbit to any point on table, and deploy swarms of Scouts directly into close combat with his expensive Titans and super-heavies. Then comes the Epic cheese of "Titan stomps on Scouts, next stand is +3, Titan stomps on Scouts, next stand is +6, Titan stomp on Scouts, next stand is +9, wins, reactor hit, boom." Rinse and repeat until by the end of turn 1 he's lost all his big stuff, and he's trembling and choking up and saying "But all you're doing is trading your cheap units for my expensive ones!" Life is hell in the grimdark, chap.1 point -

£30 and up now for some single models. Utterly bonkers. And the resale value of your armies might be close to zero, as it really does seem like GW have a policy of "if it's not the latest version, from the latest Codex, don't bring it to a tournament or shop". Heck, last time I played 40K it was with a box of knock off "Space Rangers" which cost a whopping £10 for a box of 50 at the time. I hit them with a rattle can of white gloss, an ink wash, and a few licks of gunmetal, and was good to go. Now I think GW would take out a restraining order if I brought them within 2 miles of a store. https://em4miniatures.com/products/space-rangers?variant=317840326984861 point -
Playing with dolls with silly made up rules. Completely ridiculous, not like playing with toy guns with silly made up rules.1 point
