Custom Pistol Build Thread
Paul H and 2 others reacted to frontsight for a topic
I really enjoy creating custom builds based on real-steel counterparts, and take a lot of inspiration from what other airsofters have built. I can't seem to find any dedicated pistol threads here; so I'm starting a thread where we can share some customized pistols. Curious to see all of your cool custom pistol builds, so feel free to show off some of your one-of-a-kind handguns! ---------------------------------------- I'll kick it off with a recently finished build. Based it off a "bowling pin" 1911 that's used in competitive shooting circles. -> https://www.thearmorylife.com/bowling-with-a-pistol-a-guide-to-pin-shooting/ These types of handguns are usually older, base model 1911's retrofitted with all the modern upgrades such as adjustable sights, and ridiculous compensators. Did some research and found that this was a style of 1911 popularized in the 70's~90's by people like Bill Wilson (Wilson Combat). Think of it as what resto-modding older cars are, just for guns. Started off as a basic MEU with a guarder slide and frame, but now complete with a commander-style hammer, tung oil finished wood grips with custom cutouts, and compensator. I've also upgraded all the internals such as the BBU and sears/disconnectors. Pretty much done at this point but I might throw on a ridiculously long inner barrel to match the length of the comp. Otherwise, looks as massive as it does in the pics and shoots like a dream Tried reverse-crowning the barrel while waiting for the comp to arrive. A gunsmithing technique where the barrel is cut inwards at an angle, used to increase accuracy. Pretty sure doesn't work on airsoft outer barrels but still, looks cool as hell Real steel pin-shooting 1911:3 points -

Totally changed design of some retention bungees I made a year or so ago. These can be used for cables, slings etc. Have a bit of adjustability too. I know you can use rubber bands, ranger bands etc. But since when do us Airsofters go with the simplest or cheapest solution? Haha3 points -

Anyone going to the The Depot - Port Glasgow 27/03/22?
Rogerborg and one other reacted to Gloombones for a topic
Hey all, I am relatively new to airsoft and will be at the ‘depot’ in Port Glasgow tomorrow, Looking forward to my first CQB skirmishing there and looking for any recommends or advice for gear, load out etc, I was at ‘Red Alert’ Newbury last Sunday which was open field and have been to ‘players of war’ in Falkirk, however I’m anticipating a different beast all together being that it will be close quarter pew. bonus: the depot is it’s in my home town, and literally a 2 minute walk away2 points -

The sharp edges from the thumb and grip safety on my TRP was chewing up the webbing on my supple medium sized hands, so I made a quick weekend project out of blending the grip safety into the frame. -------------------------------------------------- The guarder thumb safety for the V10 model has the correct design for a springfield style safety, but has a 90 degree edge which really digs in to the web of your hand. You can see the RS safety comes with a rather steep bevel to prevent this. I had initially ground this out a bit, but still wasn't enough for my sensitive hands. Similar issues with fitting a hi-capa grip safety to a 1911 frame. The Nova grip safety is really good quality but just doesn't fit correctly with the Guarder frame. Was originally going to mark the grip safety blue to make sure I didn't alter the shape of it too much. Unfortunately I got the wrong marking fluid, should have gotten dykem blue layout fluid but got the non-drying kind instead. Ended up smearing the blue everywhere Blended the grip & thumb safety, both in the engaged position. Initial grind with half-round file Removed file marks with sandpaper. Remnants of the blue smurf paste seen in the background Finished results. Might clean up the uneven angles on the thumb safety a bit more, but pretty pleased how it turned out as it is. Now the grip safety portion feels like grabbing on to a stick of butter. Now I just need to decide a cerakote color to refinish... What do you think? Should I go with the original bushed/bead-blasted two tone (left) or a overall satin stainless color (right)? I don't think springfield offers this two-tone brushed finish on their TRP's, and only does this on their "loaded" models. P.S. Tutorial for you handymen to try it out if you'd like2 points -

Brilliant idea if you ask me, it would class as a charity game as I reckon at least half of the players haven't seen a real life nipple since their mom stopped breastfeeding them. Also what a great diversionary tactic, you could send her out on a run and pick off the opposition as they stand there like slack jawed zombies while figuring what sort out white stuff they should be shooting at her. If this became a thing it would grow the game as there would never be a half empty game again. Right up until some fucked up fat incel charges one down on a I can't get laid without paying for it red mist moment.2 points -

Tbh I doubt any sites gonna let you play completely starkers, well definitely not in a public game, exposes (npi) them & you to lots of legal public decency issues. I private game might be a possibility, but you'd have to get all your obviously pervy male friends to play to make up the numbers. Alternatively, set a compromise & just wear something skimpy but legal, plenty of guys have run around in mankini's for a giggle with no objections from sites. & yes it will hurt. & without pictures it didn't happen ?2 points -

Needed to knock up a couple more goggle fan units and a simplified goggle-strap clip to mount a Poundland £1 powerbank. Total all-in cost, including the powerbanks ~£4 each. The earlier prototypes seem to work pretty well, but I need to stress-test over the summer when it's really hot and sweaty. Thinking of a dual-fan version with airflow guide vanes to direct the air over a wider area2 points -

Not really about what I bought, but WHERE I bought it. I ordered two 40mm, 72 round Moscarts from actionhobbies.co.uk Never ordered from them before, but ran through trustpilot and they have good reviews. This morning I got a phone call from them, apologising. The Moscarts are out of stock in that size. I can wait for them to come back in stock OR they can send me the next size up, at no extra charge, which I will receive in time for this weekend's game. Great customer service! Shout out to Paul at action hobiies.2 points -

Hello everyone, I'm Cocha and I'm an new player. I'm based in Italy, but I've chosen to join this community because I generally prefer to confront myself with international points of view as Italian forums tend to be a bit close-minded. I hope being from outside UK won't be a problem for the community. As for myself I just started, I already have bought my first gun (an old and used Tokyo Marui MC51) but I'm a sucker for P90's and looking for a good one, preferably used. Cheers!1 point -

I feel like there's probably at least a few other criteria here (left/right handed shooter, ease of use, weight, etc.), but you can do all that with an SRS for £400 new plus the cost of a spring change. Which is all of 30 seconds work. Yes, the stock hop is fiddly to set, but if you get that done right you can run it forever without breaking sears, etc. Something that can't be said for the VSR. I suspect the TAC-41 is similar. Ultimately you're still going to end up buying newer shinier parts in a futile quest for more accuracy/range/performance because who doesn't, but you don't *have* to. No experience with buying pre-upgraded/SSG10, the (apparent) simplicity of bolt gun upgrades always leads me to do them myself. And that's never gone terribly wrong...1 point

I have 'ahem' many CYMA AKs, all have standard hops and gears. I swap a BW 'fet between them. The barrels are not too bad tbh, but can be bettered, the rubbers are a bit crap and best replaced. You can nip the hop adjuster up when set and then forget it if you stick to one BB weight.1 point -

After annoying a few folks on the electric gun section, bit the bullet and bought... TM Devgru, 2 batteries and 4 PTS mags from the folks at firesupport. Only mod is the lipo conversion and she will stay stock (forgive the carpet folks, the misses loves the colours) The one thing I did not realise was the length of the PTS mags (Mag on the left is for my G&G scar) I'm running an old Viper Hong Kong police vest (the one with the elastic straps that go between your legs and stop the vest riding up) and the I can only get one mag in a pouch comfortably now. Looks like it's new vest/plate carrier time lol...1 point

So, today was a particularly fun one. Five of us have been playing online games together, for nigh on 20 years. Some of us have never met face to face. This weekend we finally all met up. Three not that far apart, one from Scotland and one from Canada. I've obviously played a lot. One of us had played about 5 games. The Scottish guy had played Airsoft once before. The Canadian played once with me last weekend. That other had never played before today. We went to Red Alert in Newbury. What a superb day. First time at the site for all of us, and it was a great site. Good sized playing area, lots of great terrain and buildings (standard wood builds but good quality and varied), lots of varied game modes, very welcoming staff and they marshals could not have been more engaged. The atmosphere was very good. All five of us had a great day, and all of the varying levels of newbies are very keen to play again and are all talking about getting their own kit (I loaned out a lot of kit today and got it all back in the same condition I lent it out in). Red Alert is highly recommend, I've booked in for their next battlesim weekend. Oh, and we got some comemmerative patches made up for the meet up, that we wore today.1 point -
