  1. Yes. They said that they had no record of it, as each agent handles and records their own inquiries (or lack of enquiries). We've all got a mate like that. Heck, I might be that mate, although I do try to be careful to express things as opinions unless I can cite statute or case law, or firm examples. In this case, he's talking about what could happen, not what will happen. What I will say from day-job experience is that police may check their own systems for information on an address (or known suspect) after dispatching an emergency response. They won't find a UKARA record, at least not the first time. They may find a previous incident record if it's a repeat call to some who learned nothing the first time, and that information may get to the response unit, and they may tailor their response based on it. In the past, they've shot a Scotchman with a table leg in a carrier bag. Better safe than sorry. Recently though, they've shown a lot of restraint. We've got multiple examples of that in the News section, from kids with two-tones in their own homes, student film-makers on the street, to folk actively trying for suicide-by-cop by gearing up and pointing an "AR" at them. That one got beanbagged in the balls.

  2. Interesting, but it looks like two separate tasks mashed together: thinking, and shooting. I mean, have you met airsofters?

  3. I was waving a large Sabatier around once. The plod ignored me as they knew I have a City and Guilds in catering and a food hygiene certificate (which the local Environmental Health Dept. had confirmed).

  6. I did in a way. I asked him "What if an UKARA member had a real firearm. According to your logic they wouldn't bother responding because he was UKARA registered". He ignored my question.

  7. Ask him what the police would do if they had a report about a man waving a shotgun around. Would they check if the address had a valid shotgun certificate and then not bother to turn up ?

  8. Yup. Unfortunately he's a "know it all" type, telling me he's learned about airsoft "for years". He thinks UKARA is a magic ticket that allows you to own RIFs. His idiotic take about the Armed Police and their access to the UKARA database was too much for me.

  10. Oh, we've had some great rants and handbag spats about that, and particularly whether something can be both a Firearms Act 1968 firearm (airgun are a sub-category of firearm) and an imitation firearm (FA 1968 definition) or realistic imitation firearm (VCRA 2006 definition) at the same time. It's all as clear as mud, but essentially you're correct: it's easier to walk out of a shop with something shooting metal at multiple Joules than plastic at 1.1J, despite them looking identical to anyone but a hands-on observer. Airgun, airsoft, and bang-gun. Aaaand welcome to the handbagging.

  12. I'm very happy with my Lonex mags, but even they sometimes partly unwind when I slide 'em in to my DE and the Tippmann. Any idea if there's something I can tweak to prevent that? With regard to mags / ammo carrying ... you could buy one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132131973156 Stick it in a pocket, it doesn't rattle, and it pours into a high-cap reasonably well if you're careful. I've got enough mags that mine is relegated to 'emergencies only' in a pouch on the back of my belt, it's good to know it's there, so not a wasted investment. (If you do buy one, and it's going in a pocket or somewhere hidden from view, don't necessarily buy the camo that matches the ground you're on - you'll never find it if you drop it :D)

  13. Those are Dboys M4s (also known as Specna Arms, Lancer Tactical, Saigo Defense, Evolution Airsoft), solid starter guns. I would advise against buying mags before you get a replica, while it's true that in theory A brand mag will fit B brand gun, it's Airsoft we're talking about and most "guns" want certain brand magazines. I'll tell you this, if you don't mind high caps, Lonex Flash Mags are essentially the best and the ones that, in my experience, feed in most guns. Midcaps are cooler but they're a lot more fussy.

  14. Exactly. They're not giving out any information that you don't already have, just confirming it's correct

  15. You’re summing up is generally correct. The VCRA requires a ‘defence’ for the manufacture, sale or import of a RIF - but the offence committed under a sale would be by the seller (whether business or private) The UKARA is just a central register based on airsoft site ‘membership’ schemes, designed to protect retailers but has had processes for private sellers to request validation The border agency/customs and the police could call upon it ‘Gifting’ is an interpretation of the law - the law covers manufacture, import and sale - so can be interpreted that handing over a RIF with no remuneration is not a sale. I’m not aware of this being tested in law, but a barrister was commissioned to review legislation against paintball by the UKPSF and they were happy with the interpretation of the law for gifting (There are quite a few paintball guns that could be RIFs and there was a reliance for many years on the theory thus a paintball gun is a low power air weapon, which is a type of firearm under legislation and therefore a firearm would not be an IF nor a RIF - but that’s also not been tested in court) I try to stick to my sponsors wise words regarding both what I wave around in public and for general life As I have not yet been arrested or had my front door kicked in its worked much better than any databases (particularly as I’ve never been on a UKARA database) Silence is golden On a different tack I am aware of a very well known member of the old school paintball customisation community who built many airsoft based paintball customs long before the VCRA & UKARA were a twinkle in a politicians eye. He went through a dark period and decided to end it with suicide by cop and manufactured armed police response upon himself Had it not been for his ex also stepping in and reporting her concerns then it could have ended differently They did not choose to ignore the matter and did provide a full armed response team handling the matter very professionally The risk was still the same that they were face to face with an armed man, not knowing for certain what could be real or not

  17. Not sure what more I can add that hasn't already been posted, but there's some great advice here As someone who has struggled with debt and mental health issues I fully understand how appealing that new gun feeling can be, only for it to go very quickly and be replaced by the shitty feeling that you're still in the same position but more skint. When it comes to social media I find it's good to remember that what you're seeing is an extremely edited version of what's going on in people's lives and occasionally taking a break from it for a few weeks can do your mental health a world of good, especially the airsoft groups on facebook. All the whinning manbabies on there really make me dispair for the future of the hobby so I left almost all of them

  18. Probably the best thread title/premise I've seen on here. Great idea. I think I was lucky in a respect, when I went through my trade training (age 19/20) it was like a more compact stint at uni except we got paid and had to march for it. I'd watch most of the other lads on my course manage to vanish their pay packet within a week every single month, for 15 months. They'd *constantly* complain about being skint the 2nd half of the month and be even worse when their cars were due MOT or insurance. I figured I'd better not be like them. Appreciate the folks who've been so open and honest so far, really good to see. I hope this discussion continues.

  20. So it'll be a stupidly high price for a very short time. The more I read about this, the worse it looks @Killbox "provide your blanket consent to being verbally abused, touched, shocked, force fed, restrained, tied up or subjected to any of the other actions or behaviours which one might reasonably expect from a military scenario." Am I allowed to fight back in these senarios?

  26. Hi All, Shot in the dark here. But I don't suppose anyone knows the stock shimming setup for a Double Eagle M916A? Very new to teching any gun and took apart my gearbox to check compression, during the process I knocked a shim or two and didn't know exactly which gear they was sat on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

  27. I'd do that , save buying mags untill you get your UKARA and order your first RIF, then get mags to match,

    What have you made?

Made a new toggle for a luger I got out of a parts bin. This one is just for test fitting. Ill pretty it up later. Vaugely considering re doing the whole upper assembly to get some semblance of performance out of this we

  29. Those guns are some sort of M4 , M4 mags should fit. Whilst most are not model specific there are some that are , but you should be ok with any generic M4 mag. Can you not take a bottle or bag os BB's out with you during the game and then just refill the mag that comes with the rental ?

  32. If you are selling a RIF and want to check the buyer has a valid UKARA you can call to check. They won't give any personal info but if you give a name and address or UKARA number they will tell you if its valid.

  35. Eh, he's a good friend, but he's stubborn, especially whenever someone questions his knowledge of the things he's been interested in for years. I know next to nothing about technical parameters of RIFs etc, while he seems to have a good grasp on all that. I'm not going to ditch a mate over his poor understanding of the British laws. It's not like he slept with my wife That doesn't sound right, especially given GDPR and what's posted on UKARA's website. Surely you need a valid reason to access their database.

  37. You are correct except for a small point in (2) Anyone can check if a given name and address has an associated valid UKARA But of course the Police will not check that before responding to a reported weapon sighting.

  39. You can certainly buy RIF's from private sellers and not having ukara or some other form of defence. You can buy two-tones from a shop so you don't need ukara in that case either. When someone waves any form of gun in a public space there is only one outcome usually. I mean this is the UK after all not the States you may have a better chance to survive here, lol.

  40. AGM is the same stuff as far as I can tell. I have halo, a friend has AGM, both are exactly the same besides the shades being very slightly different. For all practical purposes they are the same. A good suggestion for someone on a budget! Though nothing else really gets as close to real leaves as halo (besides real leaves :D)

  42. If you want to go mega cheap, you can use old camos. Shred up an old pair of trousers and use it the same way as haloscreen. Will it be as good? Probably not, but it will be a fraction of the price and still do the job. Embrace old fashioned ghillie crafting!

  43. You could contact Theyma HP on Facebook for proper haloscreen. Forget about AGM and Novritsch, those are junk sheets of tulle/mesh that aren't even in the same universe as HS.

  47. Heh, this one is not secure enough to hold any valuable since it doesn't have any closure system (not that it can't be DIY'd or engineered huh). I just use it for navigation equipment (pencil, map, 10cm metal ruler and plastic protractor). I keep my car keys/phone in my backpack that I always have on my back, dummy corded so there's no way of losing them. The harness was chosen because I also have their flatpack straps (called PackStraps, many creativity, such wow) and they're very, very comfortable compared to HSP/clone stock straps, if anything a little too expensive to import (they were about €80 after customs and import fees, I got 50% off the straps themselves so you are looking at well over 100 for full price) but worth it. As per the other thread, I won't be overloading it with pouches, wings, danglers and all that crap unless absolutely necessary, I'm keeping this one ultra slim. If I need to carry my kitchen sink I'll just wear my Mayflower or belt kit

  48. This. 7 Years ago - when I finally realised that I was in real trouble - I was £23k in debt with Credit Cards. Luckily I was (just about) paying the minimum payment on time (so no late payments or defaults), but those minimum payments were skyrocketing, interest free offers were ending, and I was struggling. Thing is - my Wife had no idea I was in debt. It was when she found out that I had to confront the issue and acknowledge what an idiot I had been - all to buy the shiny newest thing and get the dopamine hit of receiving parcels in the post. I was deeply unhappy with my job which compounded the issue as I would sit at work browsing for stuff to buy rather than...y'know...working. It was all the more galling that I had literally nothing to show for it - I would buy stuff then sell it before I even used it (that includes Paintball and Airsoft gear). The proceeds of the sales would just get frittered away on more random and pointless crap - and never to tackle the Credit Card debt that was steadily accruing. I was very lucky. My Wife didn't divorce me (but it was close) - I don't know where I would be today if she had. I was able to change jobs and dramatically increase my income. Every spare penny went into repaying the debt - and it took 5 years - but for the last 2 years I have not owed a penny to anyone and I am determined to keep it that way. It can be done - I would also suggest taking a look at the 'Debt Free Wannabe' section of the Money Saving Expert forums, it helped us to identify the best course of action for the circumstances I landed myself (and family) in.

  49. If you're in debt, help is out there and it can get better. I was around £16k in credit card debt, had some ccjs and was very lucky to have some support from family and a debt management company/charity and managed to get out of that hole, even with help it wasn't easy but the journey of being out of debt made my day to day life better than when I was burying my head in the sand/being in a destructive mindset(more disposable income and better quality of life). Saw some dark days etc. Now I'm debt free, bought a house and just recently got my credit score back to perfect. But my point is there is help out there, for everyone, if you're in a dark place it can get better, there are people and charities that can help, just reach out. There's hope.
