Passed on by an eagle-eyed viewer who wishes to remain anonymous. Wow, only £2000 for a wankergun shooting at 1.24J that you won't be able to use at any site (might be why he's never ever had an issue with it), and which doesn't appear to come with the one brand of magazine that it needs. [EDIT] Eddie the Eagle Eyed Viewer reckons that's £1300 worth at retail prices. I guess the extra £700 is for the peace of mind of that "never ever had an issue" cast iron guarantee about its past performance.5 points

And picture tax Rep mart is great - cheaper than most and like I said, a really nice shop with plenty of space to look. They even have custom carrier bags that fit the boxes in nicely. also if you’re in Osaka, SFBU had some great gear in, and lots of new goodies like the Carl Gustav launcher, and the new scar compact thing.3 points -
Its worth checking your bucking to nozzle seal, this is done by having the gearbox set such that the nozzle is in its most forward postion, then push the hop unit assy into the front of the gearbox, if you now blow into the exit end of the inner barrel it should be completely air tight. This will highlight a poor seal between; Bicking to barrel/hop assy Nozzle and bucking lips Nozzle to cyl head Piston to cylinder3 points

So for further reading on this if anyone is interested (long post incoming) Went to Repmart in Akihabara, opposite Echigoya - lovely shop and one thing that is different is that this one has a lot of space, it doesn't feel like a carboot sale. They had an in store special on the SD6 which was too tempting not to at £350ish. Also picked up a decent armourer's wrench whilst I was in there. Then moved to Kyoto, and popped into Gun Shop Gurka in Osaka who deal with 2nd hand stuff. TM MK46 marked as B grade, this thing looked as good as new, bar some light scratches on the stock, and no outer box. Bargain at around £500. Also in another shop down the road, elusive TM MP5 mags at £20 each, so picked up 4 of them, before the wife screamed at me. So this is when it gets interesting. My flights were ITM-HND with JAL, then HND-LHR with BA, all on the same ticket but handled by the respective airlines. I had spoken to BA ahead of time and they said if JAL check it in at ITM, then all gravy. I had this confirmed in an live chat and had the print outs. I also phoned JAL in the UK ahead of time, and was told to email them the fact sheets and my flight details. They got back to me and said all good, they will put a marker on my ticket to have it inspected before being checked in. In preparation, I bought 2 large cardboard boxes and taped them together into one long one (still within airline limits) and bubble wrapped it all inside. Got to itami, checked in the suitcases no problem. Inspected the guns and a police officer walks over, gives it a quick look and a thumbs up. This is going too good... Then JAL bring out 2 huge metal flight cases. They want to ship the rifs in their special weapon cases. Ok not a deal breaker, I can just grab them at LHR. No dice, they are for domestic flights only, meaning I would need to pick it up at HND and re-check it in. Urghhhhhh. So I ask "how do i get these back to London once they are out of the metal cases?" They then check in the empty 6ft cardboard box as well. Get to HND, pick up cases and box, transfer them back to cardboard box an then lug it across to the international terminal to check back it. Approach the desk where it's Japanese BA staff. Explain to them what has transpired and hand over the spec sheets of the 2 which i had printed out in advance. The nice lady nods, then talks to an older gentleman who looks at he spec sheet - says something in Japanese but i pick out the words Marui, and Airsoft. So they take me over to oversized baggage, and run it through an xray, no need to unbox this time. Nervous wait and then a thumbs up. I break out the roll of gaffer tape and seal down all the openings 3 times over. Get to LHR, box pops out, border patrol/HMRC are all on strike and i walk through the green channel with no issues and from touchdown on the tarmac to my driveway in 90 minutes. Overall if I were to do it again, i would by a softcase/hard case and bung them in that if it weren't a mk46.3 points

Courtesy of @alxndrhll, some Pmag conversions are on the bench for the WE rifles , getting the height just right was tricky and required a little flat plate lapping into perfection and the insides need a fair bit of work if you don’t want to modify the WE inner magazine (I didn’t ) but success , modifying and floating the base plate like a diving board means the Ranger plate or base plate is nice and secure and covers all the fill port over as well gonna need some tan ones now though ?2 points -
Best Load Carrying Options to save the knees! Advice needed.
slipperysquid and one other reacted to The Waco Kid for a topic
Okay options. Do you actually need the pistol? Do you use 4 hi caps in rapid order? Remove excess tat from rifle. Just optic if you use one. Sling if you are using pistol. If not ditch the sling and consider a stock mag pouch for reserve hi cap. Reloading from this is likely strong hand so no sling makes it easier. (I actually think you gear list isn’t very much. But I’ve been know to fill out an Arktis Battle vest and carry an M16 with M203….. ? and a patrol pack ??). Combat trousers often have mag slits in the cargo pockets these days. If yours are decent one hicap each side. Empty slot is for spent mag. Grenades etc and pistol if kept are on belt. Runners pack or camel back. 1L of water, bb’s, radio go in this. Potentially this could be left at spawn point or central location in game field. Police up mags between contacts so weak side leg pocket is ready and either stock mag or strong side pocket is empty/part used. As an alternative a low riding minimalist chest rig could carry the few items left on the belt OR the mags. Any kind of plate carrier is just excess weight and will raise centre of gravity above the hips. Not ideal. A proper belt order, ie sitting on the hips with a yoke is good. It also has the utility of being ditched and put on as a single item.2 points -
First Time Teching, Observations Etc.
Rogerborg reacted to Ebeneezer Goode for a topic
Had the UAR apart (again) today to solve a niggly ongoing FPS/hop issue which I (correctly) suspected was an air leak. While I was at it I decided to check the cylinder air seal and the general condition of the gearbox, seeing as I've had the gun a couple of years now. As its my first time inside an AEG's guts I thought I'd share my thoughts... Armed with Poundland's finest Rolson mini screwdrivers and a YT video explaining V3 gearbox disassembly/reassembly, I cracked on. Disassembly was a piece of cake. Motor removed via two screws, remove the selector levers, three (or was it four? Cannae remember) hold the shell together plus (on the UAR v3 box) a big clip on the top holding both parts together - wee bit fiddly to remove but doable with some force and not too much swearing. Inside things are pretty simple - three gears, AR latch, cyl/piston and trigger. I removed the cylinder as I wanted to check the seal on the head. Holding my finger against the nozzle and pushing the piston I was pleasantly sueprised to find an excellent seal - no further problems there. A good spray of silicone in the cylinder and then checked the gears. There wasn't much grease in there - I was expecting a mess - so I sprayed some white lithium grease on the gears and shims and, satisfied all was well, went about putting it all back together. The infamous AR latch was actually quite simple to keep in place, the trigger was fiddly but got there in the end after holding it all down firmly in place and screwing the shell together again. The big clip was then slid over the rail at the top of the box to keep it all together - simpler than removal - and then the selector levers were put on again. Next, I examined the hop unit, which was clear there was an air leak there - the hop rubber slid out way too easily, so I added some electrical tape I had lying about and instantly solved the issue. After putting it all back together test shots were now reading 1.07j - back to what the gun was before this started (power dropped to 0.85j and dropped low as 0.3 when any hop applied). So, first time teching experience. My thoughts... There's a lot of fear around AEG internals - having seen first hand and done work, it's honestly not that hard. Granted different gearboxes will have completely different layouts but honestly, I found this pretty simple. Even without the YT video I reckon I'd have managed OK. Secondly... quite a few little bits to lose. Clean, flat, well-lit work area is an absolute myst, along with little storage cups or similar for stopping all those wee bits getting lost. I briefly goofed by losing the hop nub in the carpet - wife and kids dustracting me, they got the blame - 20 minutes of much swearing and anxious hunting ensued before it was found safe and well. Thirdly, I achieved this with basic household tools. I'm sure there's better gearbox lubricant than white lithium but that's what I had in the garage and I'm sure it won't do harm. It certainly sounds smoother and quieter cycling than previously. My view is anyone with the most basic mechanical knowledge and with a set of poundland screwdrivers could fix an AEG. I'd go as far as say I enjoyed it and it's certainly helped demystify these mysterious machines so many of us are scared to touch. Eezer G1 point -

PS white lithium is fine for the gears, just use something like Superlube, TechT or similar for the compresson parts so they dont dry out and bind up/drag which would result in a stripped piston or similar.1 point -
First game at District 23 last night. What a quality site. It's a 2 story CQB arena within a industrial unit. Player count was around 15 people or so which was good as the site wasn't overcrowded and let me learn the layout as well as let players get flanks off and get behind the other team. Marshalls were great, super chilled about everything. Chrono was done in good time and there were decent length breaks between games to refill mags etc. Took out my MP5, Shadow 2 and LVOA as a backup in-case the MP5 went down. The MP5, with my hasty CYMA hop unit replacement, had feeding issues with the CYMA mags meaning I had to keep them pushed forward slightly. A bit annoying but other than that, the gun performed great all night and even caught the eye of a marshall who was asking me about it. Several players said it hits like a truck as well and the Olight Odin is like turning on the sun given how bright it is, however, it's a dead giveaway to where I was. The Shadow 2 was a nice piece of kit to have around for the tighter corridors/doorways of the upstairs area. Just a shame I couldn't get it to consistently hop .28g BBs accurately. Probably just need to fine-tune the hop. One highlight of the night was pushing down the left flank and seeing some lad in a black cobra hood sprint past into a dead corner. I knew he had to come back past me but if I chased, i'd get shot in the back from their spawn. I lobbed a multibang the length of the lane and it exploded at his heels as he tried to escape. Being a mostly empty industrial unit, the echo from the multibang is unreal and prompted a few "WTF was that!" calls from the whole field. Getting shot under the plate carrier sucks as well. Would not recommend. First game using my new setup and it's great. The plate carrier was comfortable for the entire game but never got to use my sling for the MP5 as I bloody forgot it at home. The two-piece molle belt was great and kept all my other grenades, pistol mags and dump pouch secure with zero movement. Overall, it was a quality night. No issues with not taking hits, marshalling was fantastic, players were all super chill, especially the guy I kept teamkilling and he kept teamkilling me. Not sure how, but we kept finding each other on the field and managed to kill each other a lot. One note i'd make is that they could use some new, brighter bands for the players that wear them. They're so old/faded that it's difficult to tell who is and isn't wearing one in the low light areas. When sorting my kit this morning, it appears as though my B&T tracer has died. It performed fantastically all night and when checking this morning, it wouldn't turn on. I tried new batteries and no change. I think it's gave up after one game. They had a Tavor in their shop and I was sooooooo tempted to buy it.1 point

Tappet Plate broken in M4

As above, and don't sweat it. It's a cheap part made of whatever recycled milk cartons and dildos got thrown into the melting pot that day, and subject to a lot of stress and flexing. I've not had one go yet, but I'd consider them consumables.1 point -

I would check the new tappet plate runs smoothly and freely in the gearbox shell before putting it all back together - minimise any drag that might increase the shock loading on the fin as the timing pin spins round and grabs it Fit just the tappet plate (no gears, cylinder, piston etc...) and check that when the GB shell is screwed together (no, holding it closed with your hands isn't the same!) that it can slide back and forwards with zero resistance.1 point -

you've got a little bit of trim coming off the fin on the broken tappet plate, could be the delayer isn't needed? try it without just in case. also before you put it all back together check that the pickup tooth on the piston isn't rubbing against the flat part of the sector gear1 point -

I'd say it has snapped through fatigue. Looking at how gearboxes work recently and trying to get mine back together, that particular bit where it snapped is taking the brunt of the rotational forces as well as being hit by that timing plate as it comes round.1 point -
TM M733, Vortex red dot, TacBelts minimalist sling, Scout light clone on genuine Magpul mount (butchered by me) and an E&C non-clone correct grip (fight me!) Internally it has 16:1 gears short stroked 4 teeth (2 pickup / 2 release) shimmed and Warhead HS motor. XT M110 spring is giving 275fps (+/-1fps, ~1J) on Warhead 0.28g BBs and a grouping of 30mm at 10m from a clamped position. ML Macaron 50deg and hard nub do the hard work there! Response and rate of fire on a 7.4v 20c LiPo is excellent without getting into w*nker gun territory and resorting to MOSFETs and such. I am after a rubber stock pad (the shorter type, all ones I have found are 30% longer than the butt plate!) and maybe an E&C metal receiver as the handle on the TM polymer one cracked and is held together with glue....not the most stable optic mounting!1 point
