Supporters jcheeseright Posted June 3, 2014 Supporters Posted June 3, 2014 that radio is a bag of wank, get a baofeng instead: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UV-5RA-UV-5R-A-New-Version-Dual-Band-UHF-VHF-136-174MHZ-400-520Mhz-2-Way-Radio-/261491012466?pt=2_Way_Radios_FRS&hash=item3ce2143372 takes a kenwood plug too so this will fit and work fine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Popular-Mini-Handheld-BAOFENG-UV-5R-Speaker-Mic-Walkie-Talkie-Dual-Band-Radio-62-/171323196379?pt=US_Radio_Comm_Microphones&hash=item27e3a883db then just plug in a standard 3.5mm jack headphone if you want to silence the speaker on the mic. no airsoft clone rubbish there, all guaranteed compatible and a damn sight cheaper than the options you posted to begin with. Only downside is that you'll need to program the radio yourself, but it's a straightforward job and there's plenty of tutorials online. Airsoft_Mr B 1

Zak Da Mack Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hi charlie, looking at the connector, the pin is the same as the motorola single pin I believe. So, unfortunately, the PTT you linked is incompatible as it doesn't have an option for single pin. And as Jcheese said, those radios are crap and probably won't last very long, get a Baofeng or a motorola talkabout instead, you won't regret it,
CES_williamson Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 okay thanks guys, and jcheese thanks! but i really want a headset and a microphone that i can press the button and talk? and the radio looks really complicated so is there any chance of a more simple radio that works well with a headset?
CaptainSwoop Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 The Baofeng is illegal to operate unless you have a Ham License. Get a Motorola or Kenwood PMR446 legal radio instead.

CES_williamson Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 eBay is your friend. thanks, i still need help t find a compatible headset and switch??
CaptainSwoop Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Essentially the Baofeng is a 'Ham Radio' it can transmit on quite a wide band of frequencies and at a higher power than the PMR radios that can be used without a license. The Baofeng will transmit on the PMR frequencies as well but if that is all you are going to do then get the legal PMR. Motorola, Kenwood and Midland make the best kit

CaptainSwoop Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Not sure. There are two more or less standard ways of connecting single pin and two pin. Some models of radio have one type some the other. There are people on here who know which one has which better than I do but if you check out Motorola PMR radios on Ebay the description usualy tells you what type it is. your headset would usualy plug in to a 'PTT' (push to talk) switch adapter that connects to the radio itself. It's the PTT connections you need to worry about
CES_williamson Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Okay thanks for the help lads, found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Model-Motorola-TLKR-T60-PMR-Radio-Walkie-Talkies-TWIN-Pack-/310796758980
Baz JJ Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 1. Who do you want to communicate with - you need to make sure you have the same frequencies they do !! 2. Baofeng radios are designed for hams and some sort of licensing is required by you or the site, in order for you to use them legally. 3. PMR446 licence free radios are the simplest solution. There are many on the market. All have some controls but they are no harder to use than a mobile phone. Make sure the external mic/speaker jack is compatible with whatever headset/PTT you want to buy. A lot of milsimmers seem to use the Kenwood and Motorola 2-pin. I've got Motorola 1-pin and other types. It doesn't really matter much. There are lots of posts on here about radios if you spend some time searching. Personally, I like ones that scan and which have a rotary volume knob - FWIW
Airsoft_Mr B Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 When you buy a PTT you just need to make sure it's the right plug so for example it will usually say for Kenwood or Motorola Talkabout. For example I know Z-Tactical aren't a great brand but I'm looking at these: http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail1.php?search_From=category&item=ZTHK-Z113-MTA&search=special&rs=Headsets&catid=1&cat=&view_choice=c http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail1.php?search_From=category&item=ZTHK-Z124-MTA&search=special&rs=Headsets&catid=1&cat=&view_choice=c Headset choice shouldn't matter AFAIK but I'm also looking at a cheap ZTac: http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail3.php?tabpage=3&search=special&rs=Headsets&item=ZTHK-Z029-BK&search_From=category Hope this is helpful.

Supporters jcheeseright Posted June 3, 2014 Supporters Posted June 3, 2014 Okay thanks for the help lads, found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Model-Motorola-TLKR-T60-PMR-Radio-Walkie-Talkies-TWIN-Pack-/310796758980 with that you'll need any PTT designed for a motorola 1 pin. If you're after a 'military style' headset, then you're really looking at chinese clone stuff, real deal comms gear is expensive and particular about what it'll work with. The PTT Mr B linked will work fine with your radio, any headset with a TP120 (sometimes called military) plug will fit into it, I'd recommend sticking with z-tactical as their headsets are pretty decent, don't get their knockoff Sordins or Comtacs though, they're arse.
