StarkeyUK Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hi, I have a VFC M27 with a 420mm barrel. The only barrel I can find that is 420mm is a prometheus barrel but it is for an M14. I have read the M14 barrels have notches (that hold the hop up unit on) in a slightly different place to standard AEG barrels. If someone could measure how far the notches on their standard barrel is from the end of the barrel that would be amazing. Then I can confirm if I have an m14 barrel or a standard barrel. I know this is an odd request as my gun is not an m14 but I don't want to spend a load of money on a barrel to find that it isn't right. Thanks in advance
Root Admin proffrink Posted February 19, 2016 Root Admin Posted February 19, 2016 I actually have a Prometheus BC Bright M14 barrel in my DG as it's the only one I could get in 500mm. The notches that C-clip sits in on the M14 are much closer (by a good 1cm or so), so unfortunately it's a no-go for a normal hop unit.
Hudson Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Some brands of inner barrels have both style notches, look for one of them.
Root Admin proffrink Posted February 19, 2016 Root Admin Posted February 19, 2016 You're right, but it's not worth getting one of those unless you're going to get an M14 at some point because it does confine you to ORGA and a handful of others. Probably best just to find the right length in Marui AEG spec. Perhaps PDI?
Root Admin proffrink Posted February 20, 2016 Root Admin Posted February 20, 2016 Well yeh. It's listed right on that link They do custom cuts these days too.
StarkeyUK Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Thanks for the responses guys. I bought a new bucking which seems to line up with notches I have in my barrel so I am pretty sure it's a standard barrel and not an M14 version.
Root Admin proffrink Posted February 21, 2016 Root Admin Posted February 21, 2016 The notches that are different on the M14 are for the clip on the hop unit (the two perpendicular cuts). Not the long ones that run parallel with the barrel. The M14 barrel accepts the same AEG bucking that AEGs use - it's a case of it not being able to secure itself in the hop unit that's the issue.
