Popular Post AK47frizzle Posted April 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted April 29, 2022 Well…. It’s this time again… So, some of you may have seen my previous posts in the past about the alpha and beta test. Well, now, here is another one: the MOSQUITO open beta test. This is the third iteration of the MOSQUITO which is an open-source, modular, 3D-printed airsoft kit designed to take a V3 gearbox and hop-up chamber from a TM-based AK platform and turn them into a pure menacing machine on the airsoft battlefield, being super compact and lightweight with the same fire power as any other gun. Capable as both a primary weapon or as a sidearm backup. Able to be HPA'd as well. The first iteration was very basic and did what was necessary: The second iteration refined a lot of the functions and aesthetics: This third iteration completely overhauls the design and enhances the printability of the model: It now has beautiful and durable textured sides on many of the parts, a reworked and more reliable magazine catch, a completely reworked and ingenious battery grip solution, and many more changes. But primarily, the MOSQUITO is now open-source meaning you can make one too! It has been designed to be as easy to print as possible. The main features of the MOSQUITO: Compact - measuring only 590mm unfolded and 383mm folded Lightweight - weighing only around 1.5kg when fully assembled (AEG form) Modular - easily swap parts out with a few pins (more to come in the future) Clever battery grip solution - a small gun doesn't have to mean a small battery Never fear for spare parts - open-source allows parts to be forever available What will you need to make it work? V3 gearbox (TM AK based) Complete AK hop-up chamber (inc barrel and bucking) Stick type battery (max length 112mm, width 21mm, height 19mm) MP5 magazines (CYMA for best compatability) If you are after a tiny platform that packs a huge punch, this is it. Woah there, single file please. So, how to participate in the open beta test? You can purchase a kit from me which includes everything (send me a message). Or, if you have your own 3D printer, you can download the 3D files and have a go at printing it yourself. Or, you can ask someone to make one for you. If you decide to make one yourself, you will have to source the screws and components yourself. Most are common parts and can be found in online stores. I have made a guide for both 3D printing and assembly instructions which list the parts required and they can be found at the bottom of the both Printables and GitHub pages. If you decide to partake in the test, I'd highly consider joining the HYBRID AIRSOFT discord server to provide feedback and discuss the kit. The test will run from now to some time in June. No final date yet. Speedbird_666 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Very cool mate - I have downloaded the files and will have a look at printing my own. AK47frizzle 1
ak2m4 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Very cool, congratulations on making it this far. Kinda reminds me of the B&T APC9K AK47frizzle 1
Speedbird_666 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Got a receiver side on the printer to test. Gotta get used to Prusa Slicer (only really familiar with Cura), but using the recommended settings it seems to be printing OK on an Ender 3 V2 so far.
Albiscuit Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Looks great. I love smgs and would happily run around with that. Great job
PopRocket123 Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 My dad's going to be printing one when he can source the internals. Kind of want to make a holster for it

Kind of want to make a holster for it I'm going to remove the Iron Sights, internal threading from the end of the barrel and the stock/folding mechanism entirely. Going stock-less à la the Tec-9. ak2m4 and strykerles 2

I have a couple of surplus brass inner barrels that I'm planning to cut and re-crown. As the STEP files have been provided, it's fairly easy to modify the model to increase or decrease the barrel length (within reason obviously). Edited April 30, 2022 by Speedbird_666 Hudson 1
MisterD90 Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I was going to put away my FDM printer and get the Resin one out for a bit but I'm going to give this project ago, luckily I have most of the internals already.. just need to slice them up and change the spool and I'm ready to rock
Speedbird_666 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Got a few bits printed before my printer shit itself. I've also decided to pick up a textured PEI bed (currently using a smooth one) so will probably be reprinting the receiver sides/top. Waiting on new printer parts at the moment, but will resume printing soon.
adrutu Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) Well, mine is done. Stockless with a crap GB for now but i love it! Also kept the original safety plate, only replaced the swingy part that meshes with the lever and it works a treat. Edited May 9, 2022 by adrutu Speedbird_666, AK47frizzle and ak2m4 2 1

My printer is nearly back up and running so will be looking to crack on with mine soon.
