Custom pistol slides and outer barrel

I've read that custom metal outer barrel and slide for TM pistols should come from the same manufacturer, or they may not work well together. This makes sense with tilting barrels.

 

However many hi capa metal outer barrels are fixed. Since they don't move, does this mean they can more easily be matched with custom slides from other makers.
