then again, the Ares Tard21 is particularly infamous.. like the windows millennium of airsoft :F oh and welcome to the forums, Chris, as well as Tchiu! but yea, I agree with the above comments. Would also recommend G&P, personally I'd get them over G&G. The Combat Machine is probably the best value cheap gun you can get, don't think it's 'better' for beginners than say Top Tech or G&P, but you don't have to spend as much. Good thing if you have not skirmished and do not realistically know if you are going to continue in the future.2 points

I don't really know how to start reviews so i'll get on with what you get in the box. Gun 300rd plastic/polymer magazine Basic manual with blow out diagram A cleaning/unjamming rod of unholy length I also got a ASG M90 spring for it aswell as some new flip up sights. First impressions The first thing i noticed about this rifle when i picked it up is how god-damn heavy it is! The receiver and stock are metal whereas the whole forward assembly are metal. So as you can imagine its rather front heavy (to put this into perspective, its like trying to use a see-saw with susan boyle on the other end) Performance was phenomenal very fast ROF and trigger response on a 8.4v but this was mainly due to the built in MOSFET (i honestly have zero ideas on what it actually is) A quick shooting test to show the ROF/ trigger response Specs 12" full metal OB 12" full metal octagonal key mod style RIS Polymer upper+lower receiver Battleaxe style stock with 2 QD sling mounts 420*blazed* FPS Full metal internals Trademarks/markings The gun itself has lots of markings. None of which mention that the gun is airsoft, a generic rifle will usually have "cal.6mm" somewhere or other but in my opinion, to a untrained eye, these could look like real steal markings; and the dummy bullets in the mag window enhance the look even more. Performance From garden shooting i can tell you its a dream, since i've had it about a week/1.2 and its had around 3000 rounds through it and i've had zero lock ups or problems, apart from mags not feeding but i'll get onto that later. From the manual i can tell you its 11.1v lipo ready but i only use 8.4v 1600 mah batteries for the moment. I'm skirmishing this gun for the first time on wednesday so i'll update this then when i have some answers. One problem i had was the hop up is a little finicky and with this guns 420fps it has a little backward recoil so that does cause it to move out of place, tape will keep it steady though. Features This rifle boasts ares' new quick change spring gearbox, which im yet to use but it'll be a further update. Externally you have all the basic features of an M4: Dust cover, bolt, bolt release, mag release, left sided fire selector etc. The top reciever has a look of a VLTOR one to me but i could be mistaken, the lower is a plain m4 style with a few more curves and ridges. Along the 12" handguard there is space for RIS sections. Included are 2x small 1x medium and 1x large. These give you space for torches, grips etc. Due to the shape and length of the stock handguard it does force you to use a Chris Costa style grip, unless you move the base RIS piece forward and use a vert grip but i would assume that could get uncomfortable due to weight distribution. The outer barrel is octagonal and has a standard barrel nut. It uses a clockwise 14mm thread with an included Magpul style QD flash hider (full metal) Modifications For the moment the only things i've done to this rifle are change the sights, this is really the best thing to do as soon as you get he gun as the ones included are trademarked "Toys industries" and only have one hole (aperture?) which is about as tight as your dads walet after a divorce. Secondly, i replaced the spring to bring it down to 290-310 FPS making it suitable for indoor play. In the future i plan on installing a 10.5" outer barrel and a 9.5" DD MK18 rail and if needs be, a crane stock. Cons The main downfall of this gun is its mag compatibility, it will fit them but when they try and feed, the BB's will spray all into the trigger and gearbox mech so this is something to watch out for when making a purchase. Second con is the loose hopup wheel but is an easy fix. Thats the end i guess, i'll be updating this regulary with any problems/modifications. Enjoy!1 point -

I just thought I would, as a first timer put down my views of my very first skirmish. Sorry if it's not in the right area. I went along to the boot camp day at Skirmish Billericay. I had pre-booked a specked up M4 for myself which was supposed to be better than the standard M4 they rent out. The only real difference externally was the collapsible stock, fore grip and external battery that blocked the view down the iron sights. The insides were apparently upgraded as well but considering I can compare to anything else Im not a great judge. In reality the weapon was a pain in the a**e as I had to keep getting it fixed as it wasnt firing consistently and would only fire on in six on full auto. I also rented some webbing and an extra high cap magazine. The mags were ok and seemed up to the job and the webbing once loosened was ok but had seen a lot of use as you would expect from a rental set. There was over 100 people on the day and was a real mixed bunch and most of those I spoke to were very friendly there were two incidents during the day that made me think that some were taking it all a little too seriously and not taking into account that is was just a boot camp and not the final battle in Platoon. But considering the amount of testosterone and adrenaline I cant complain. The site itself was really good with five or six different areas but we only use 4 on the day. After a quick 5 min game of domination for the new people to get a feel for everything we set about a game of capture the flag with about 50 a side. About 15 mins in the cloud cover came over and it was almost dark, and the heavens opened and former hurricane Bertha said hello after about 10 mins of the deluge the marshals blew the whistle and sent us all back to the safe zone to wait it out. 45 mins later we were back out and the red team went on to win the game. I took a hit directly to the eye and was very thankful for my glasses and also took a hit directly to the plums (that one hurt). After lunch we had a game where the teams took turns to attack of defend the 4 sites we used and pick up TNT then plant them on the 3 bridges. The differences in the teams was quite obvious and unbalanced as the red team won all but one game all day where the reds would attack and gain an objective quite quickly, the blues would hold back a little more and this made the difference. We were then given two more shot games at the end of the day to make up for the time we lost in the morning. The downsides of the day for me were, that the gun I rented was pants and was a real let down in the CQB Im not that up on the makes but it would put me off buying and ICS rif, the marshals were not easy to see and some were ducking down and drawing fire. The seating area needs more cover from the elements. Apart from those I got soaked to the skin, I ache all over and have a giant red lump on my jaw that looks like a big red spot, but I dont care, I had fun and am now hooked. What a great day out, I will definitely be going again!1 point -

You tend to meet the best sort of players in WW2 games. Last game I went to, our squad was trying to keep the right flank of the other British squad safe and they were taking fire from their left flank (where the Americans should have been). We therefore swung round to outflank the Germans on the right. A head pops out of a bush right by us and asks us very politely if we wouldn't mind not trying to outflank them as the German side had a few people drop out due to illness and gun malfunctions. a ). He could have taken us all out as we hadn't seen him. b ). In what other type of airsoft game would such a request be considered c ). Why can't the Americans stick to the plan?1 point -

Those players that stick in my mind are the selfless ones .. those who do little things that make your day that much more enjoyable .. those that will lend you a spare mag, ammo or gas in the middle of a firefight to help you continue .. those who stay behind end of the day to help clean up a site, sweep up bb's, collect rubbish to put things back ... those who help noobs with gun problems or queries .... those who give you a sandwich or sausage roll when you have forgotten your lunch box or food .. these people are the ones who will always be the best players to me, the often unknown people will think of others before themselves in order for others to enjoy their day just a little bit extra.1 point -

Excellent! Shame about the gun, but wouldn't let that one incidence put you off ICS, especially as it was a rental gun. I'd say get a twotone G&G cm16. saves money and disappointment on the rental. then when you sorted your UKARA you either sell it or use it as backup/loaner. Also got hit on the goggles my first game. the first thing I did as a matter in fact, haha! mine was between the eyes thou! Definitely, or if there's nothing to swap to, then a full refund on the rental.1 point -

OK replaced the outer barrel with a single piece unit, the old one was in two parts, the bit that fixed in to the receiver was seperate from the actual barrel which was just secured with a couple of Grub Screws. This one is a solid unit. No wobble. Also a new metal receiver. heavier than the polymer one but reassuringly solid.1 point -
No, it started life as a standard M4A1. I bought it from a mate 10 years later and started mutating shortly after. Pretty much the only original parts are the gearbox shell, buffer tube, trigger and front sight!1 point

^^ This This makes me question whether I want to bother going at all- I mean, sure, it may get a little heated at times, but fundamentally, it's a game of soldiers!!! Some know it all dressed to the nines in unquestionable amounts of gear telling me what to do is likely to be met with problems. I don't appreciate being told what to do at the best of times, let alone when I'm out for a bit of fun..... Don't take me wrong. It's not like I want to mess about, I'll take it as seriously as it needs to be. Not seriously, full stop. And not as someones b1tch. That aside, glad you enjoyed it. They don't do the EMAGs any more, they're called EPMs (enhanced polymer magazines) now. Basically a subtle external change to get around the licensing issue. I've not seen any reviews yet but if the internals are similar/the same as the PTS Magpul mags they'll probably be the most resilient out there. However you can get a bunch of MAG stuff for a lot less money and they do replicate a firearms magazine that actually exists so I'd say the EPM is more for the CQB/trigger-averse player. Personally I only carry 2-3 mid or low caps on me at any one time so getting a loadout of them wouldn't be prohibitively expensive, but everyone's got their preferences of course.1 point -

yea dye method worked well for me(dyed multicam) only thing is it will fade evenly so look nearly one colour. when dying if using the dylon black dye stuff(should be in you local supermarket in the cleaning isle) which is easy use if using the full packet at once make sure you have everything you are looking to dye in at once to achieve equal colouring and that when washing to achieve equal fading wash all. but definitely a good way to go is looking for unique specially as you could potentially get the exact darkness you are looking for....1 point

Alas there are horror stories with all suppliers - you only really find out how good they are when things don't go according to plan and then you find out just how good ANY company is when rectifying a problem/return I bought quite a few bits from them - Dragon for example - which is $hit but that is gun not BBGuns4Less fault, but have had a few issues when things didn't go perfectly The 3 main cheapo "kids" or beginners sites: JustBBGuns - absolute *!?@#& BBGuns4Less - tiny bit better JustBBGuns - probably best ones I have tried, everything is free shipping, fairly true reviews but still have to watch what you buy coz there is some crap on there too Alas any mystery box is gonna be mainly pants stuff imho - yes sometimes it might be a lucky touch, but in general you ain't gonna get much if any decent stuff in there (fvck me - how many targets or jammy bb's must these sellers buy per week ????) Sorry your stuff broke so quickly, but they should be taking a better lesson in customer service than that, you tried calling them - gonna be a pain to send stuff back and if so you lose on return postage - no retailer has to refund you for return shipping - if lucky some may send courier to collect at their cost but often the buyer has to pay returns Often if not too bad I have decided to take the crap on the chin coz not worth hassle or cost of postage - but in your case sounds like quite a bit is not living up to the description or faulty goods - they will argue it was working but must of broke due to user error soz - but you can see how they will answer...... Alas most of the reviews on these 3 sites are done by users who are kids or very little experience hence: Fires at 400fps - coke can test awsome range - 20ft the best gun I own - it is my first incredible rate of fire - more than 3 a second - just Just get it - so we can both get owned at skirmish sites And yes I bought LOADS of FANTASTIC crap..... Hopefully it wasn't a really big expensive amount of money on mystery box, it sounds too good to be true and if you work in advertising you would know very often it is just that - too goog to be true like most stuff in life - no free lunch etc.... Hope you get it sorted or at very least partially sorted - welocome to the: "I've been stung" airsoft club - our membership is growing and growing1 point -

If the DMR is 400 fps or lower but you have 20-30 meters of minimum engage distance, then there is no point in getting one, simply use an AEG and make it perfect. On the site I've been a few times here, 98% of ppl have decent looking gun and absolutely cr*p useful engagement distance. Mostly because they use 0.20g BBs and don't spend time to set the hopup. If you are a sniper, you already know you must spend a few hours just to set the hopup and the sights. Use quality heavy BB too, and mostly single shots. I do use my gun this way and consider myself a dmr (even though I use just a red dot - you can perfectly see to 50-60 meters) and not having a minimum engagement distance is a huge advantage to actual DMRs. Between 350 and 400 fps there is absolutely no noticeable difference if your gun is set up right.1 point

So the question of how to store firing blanks for BFGs has always bothered me. I've seen people carry them in zip lock bags or take te whole box that they come in out on the field with them. I went down the route of converting a berroca bottle but kept finding the lid would pop off and I lose a load of blanks. I'm currently working on an idea to dispense them like the old PEZ dispensers used to work. It won't hold many, maybe 7 or 8, but then I find I don't use that many per game anyway. And they're so small if it works I can always carry 2 out with me. This is where I'm up to at the moment; I'm hoping to come up with a sort of clip to attach to molle. how are dytac m4s?
BunkeredSphinx reacted to Lozart for a topic
There seems to be two very distinct schools of thought on Dytacs. The first (which seem to mostly be early production batches) suggests that the gearbox is made of cheese and will explode on contact. The second (predominantly owners of later production models) have had no issues whatsoever. Their guns are accurate and reliable (I have a couple of friends that fall into the latter category). Personally I've found them to be fairly well built although some do have fit issues between upper and lower receivers. Combat Series models which are the cheaper ones have the exact same internals but cheaper, generic rail systems etc. The ones I've personally had direct experience with have been well put together but the hydrodipped finish doesn't need much encouragement to fall off (moral of the story - get a black one). I liked them, decent rate of fire and range. I'd have one. Land Warrior have been selling them cheapest but will not help with after sales support. Socom Tactical WILL service the guns and offer post sales support but charge more for the gun in the first place. There is some suggestion that the LWA pricing is a deliberate maneuvre to piss off the guys that run Socom Tactical but how much of that is true remains conjecture and potentially libelous so I'll just leave that there.1 point -
