  1. No because some of the most fucked up guns I have ever had to sort were put that way by so called reputable shops/techs. There are very few people out there who actually do good work as most techs just change parts without ever really understanding just because part a and part b are good that they don't actually work well together. Most guns that are built require a certain amount of matching parts and then fine tuning of those parts to get the results and reliability to be what I would call an upgrade. There is a reason that all my personal aegs have the gearbox shells made not bought off a shelf to match the build.

  2. Why not? If your going to have 400 players you NEED a decent marshal to player ratio. The more the better, you cant cut corners on safety to cut costs, well clearly you can but its not acceptable. 6 would be needed in the safe zone to keep order and things working whilst people are playing, 6 wouldnt cover the parking if there were 200 odd cars.

  4. i thought that's how folk would read it the big problem with such things is the only person who knows how well (or not) a given "upgraded" gun actually shoots is the seller. but even if we assume complete honesty, there's the issue of benchmarking. if the seller claims for example "shoots like a laser" how to they know that the gun they think is good, is actually good? if they're name-dropping a tech that you trust then you can go on that basis, but usually the best you can hope for is to tot up the value of any big-ticket parts in the build.

  6. So if an ad had "upgraded by (insert reputable shop/tech) with (insert parts list)", this would be given serious consideration, if of course it was the item you were looking for (as long as the sellar wasnt trying to recoup the cost of work done)? I guess to answer that myself, yes if it was The Item, it would get consideration. But then, there is the whole new boxed smell (read: warranty) thing.

  10. Figured guys here would know what best tool / bit to use here. I'm going to dremel the crap out of my ACR stock tomorrow so I can fit an 11.1v lipo in there. I checked and it will fit the hole just needs to be widened. Plan is to take the cheek rest off and extension bit, and then, I'm not really sure. You guys have any ideas what the best way would be to cut out all that plastic? I've got a drill and dremel. Edit: Just found this via google; Looks a lot easier to do.

    What have you made?

you can get flexi-resins now and I use them when printing parts that need to take a bit of abuse. I usually add it (20% ish) to the normal resin to get a semi flexible print.

  13. See also YouChoob "celebrities" and "professionals". This used to happen all the time in reenactment as well. Local single-group events were great fun, and carefully run. Big multi-group events tended to become shitshows, with an escalating level of "Well, if you're playing by your own rules, then so am I." Not always, some of them were very well thought through and run, and you could generally tell beforehand which ones they were going to be, and which were going to be wing-it-and-hope whangfests. I know which one this event looked like up front.

  15. A very mixed weekend here, as we visited a site running an event. My group and I played both days, Saturday being the better one in my opinion. Day 1 teams were split, and ours ended up with a lot of first timers, either to the site itself or rental players. There was an issue with hit calling, that was brought up with the marshalls who described the guy involved before the sentence was finished. However, even wet and a little disillusioned by this we still returned. Sunday was awful though, had 13 players on our team with not many returns from the day prior. Counted 20 on opposing side at the end of the day, again with a large proportion of our team leaving early, and even more plastic magnetos in play. At one point the only players out in the field from our side were the 2 marshalls, and this was indicative of the day. The day finished early for us, as we did try and continue but between the massive imbalance, players leaving early in frustration, and not being able to leave the spawn in some cases meant that even trying to keep involved became an impossibility. This was a shame, I felt, as the member of our group who was on the other team even said he was bored with the fact he couldn’t find any of our side by midday. I don’t want to name the place, as honestly it could of just been the group on the opposing team but I know I spoke to a few rentals who I hopefully convinced to keep having a go. However, as one of our group said “if that had been my first experience of airsoft, it would be my last too”

  16. We're talking about AI here, if they can't be arsed to spellcheck their magazine, what chance have you got that they'll properly organise a big event, they've always traded on their "name", in the hope that people will put their trust (& money) in them as a longstanding publication. I've personally played alongside & against the AI editorial team in the past, only to find that they seem to think the game rules dont apply to them, so when I hear criticism of how they run events, I'm not surprised in the least.

  17. Ho-Ho-Ho now I have a machine gun! well actually I've had the gun for a while but only one magazine. If anyone is looking for mags (not the 72 bb version as these are like rocking horse pooh at the moment) then try sendico. Sendico is a Japanese site that buys stuff for you that you normally can't buy from Japan. You need to sign up and add funds to the wallet to make purchases. The way it works is you find an item on their site, which browses all the Japanese retailers, and click buy. They charge you 500 yen per purchase (about £3.30) and then buy the stuff for you and give you a quote for shipping. Shipping just took me 10 days with EMS from Japan. If you shop around you can find the 200 hicaps for as cheap as £21. it's also worth mentioning that if you buy 1 magazine from 1 place they will charge you £3.30 but if you buy 4 mags from the one place they will still only charge you £3.30 Also watch out as the old MP5 mags are usually listed as standard and the new recoil mags are listed as next-generation. here's an example: https://www.sendico.com/rakuten/item/konan:11354709 I've got another 3 hicaps on the way and expect them to be delivered this week some time.

  22. All personal taste I suppose. I love bullpups for example. Some think they are awkward, fugly, cursed contraptions. We've all got our tastes. I always thought the Walther P99 looked pretty futuristic. Has that compact, angular, spacey vibe that would fit right in to a Pelican dropship Pilot's loadout...

  24. This one is a tough one to police with the number of marshalls they had and I'm old school. I like to imagine we can be trusted, since when I first started airsoft 16 years ago, nobody chronoed anything, but nobody came away bleeding either. Maybe I just need to stop being such an old fogey (even though I'm only 30!) and accept that now airsoft is more popular and gets certain YouTube attention, we're going to have absolute morons who spoil it for the rest of us. I do think they should've chronoed more, as I didn't see anyone getting chronoed either, not even me when I said to the marshalls that my m21 was 1.1J. I agreed I wouldn't use it in buildings, but I also was shooting with no MED outside since while I was playing the DMR role, I was playing with normal AEG power limits since I specifically designed it not to have an MED (since that's usually what my VSR is for). I was more than happy for a marshall to chrono my gun because I'm not a dickhead, but nobody did. I can only go on what I experienced and literally every death I had on Saturday was due to grenades, even though I rarely was in "cover", since I focus on concealment over hard cover. Every time I was grenaded, it would've been easier to just spray the bush I was hiding in, but nah, instead I just got a barrage of grenades. Though, I imagine it was on both sides, like the non-hit taking as I did see that on both sides. I did have to tap a green on the shoulder I was standing next to after I saw some BBs bouncing off his rig. I medic-ed him back in, but I shouldn't have had to tell him he had been hit for him to take it.

  25. Certainly not something I relish in saying, but not unexpected by any means unfortunately. Be interesting to see any further feedback/pictures/video that come out of this. It's a shame that large events basically can't seem to be done in the UK. I'm sure there's the odd exception to the rule but anything I've ever heard of that's had more than around 100-150 or so has been pretty universally panned to the point I do not feel like even the safety would be to an acceptable standard attending any of them, let alone getting an actually fun game.

  26. Just got back from this event, I'm not sure if any of you went but what a shit show, totally unsafe. No chrono. About 10 toilets to the 450 people About 6 marshals We had fights, fires, the weather to contend with, No propperly trained medical staff. Eye Pro got shot off and broken (reputable brands so probably hot guns). They creamed the money and gave nothing back. It was a disorgansed mess. Way way to many people all building up on the chock points. It was beyond a joke tbh.

  28. i was also at the AI500 on the Tan team. met a few new people down there and got chatting, before we ended up putting up our camping gear next to one another so we could have a few drinks and some banter on friday night. as @Impulse stated, there were quite a few issues that need sorting out for future events, however he neglected to mention the big red flag.... there was no chronoing of weapons before anyone went out to play, and the marshalls said they would be spot checking in game and banning anyone found running a hot gun.... i didnt see anyone getting spot checked, nor did several other players i spoke with. i had assumed chrono would be done after the game brief as everyone headed to their CP or at the CP, so when they called game on i was pretty shocked, and i had to insist the marshals brought a chrono to the tan team command post to chrono my weapons before i would go off to play, but it still took them 10 or 15 mins to get there. after the marshall arrived a few other tan chronoed their guns too. saturday was going well, until the bad weather rolled in... the gale force winds made it almost impossible to hit anyone outside the buildings, and by the end of the day everyone looked (and felt) like drowned rats. the winds also demolished almost everyones tents on the camp grounds as they were set on high ground. a few people (including myself) had set their tents on a patch off ground between several buildings so we survived the worst of the storm. the organisers got the site owner to open up several buildings beside the campsite so people could move inside, an offer which everyone that stayed accepted so we had some shelter overnight and could get some semi-decent rest. this morning started off well, despite having to use damp gear from the day before, but after an hour or so the sun came out and the weather stayed warm for the rest of the day. Tans made a great push and managed to push greens back almost to their command post. unfortunately tempers began flaring on both sides, so a lunch break was called to allow everyone to cool down a bit before we all went back out, and greens made a slightly better push than the morning and came close to our command post. there was also a big issue caused inside a building known as "vipers nest", a 3 floor cell block. the rules stated that all mesh railings/fences etc on site were to be considered hard cover (no shooting through, no grenades through or over etc), and this included the anti-suicide nets strung across the cell block, onto which several camo sheets were placed. unfortunately one green player tried dropping a grenade through the anti-suicide net and setting one of the camo sheets on fire. after seeing this and calling for a cease fire i tried to summon a marshal, shouting that there was a fire, but it took a couple of minutes for the marshals to react, as there werent any inside the building. after the fire was put out and game resumed, the marshals declared no pyro in the building, but the message wasnt relayed evenly as several players still set off pyro in the building. saturdays game was called off early for safety reasons, but not before one of the tans slipped and injured themselves pretty bad (not sure what the injury was as there were several rumors doing the rounds). today also saw a green player dislocate their shoulder. both serious injuries and i hope they both recover quickly. as for the guns i was running; -my main rifle was my tippmann M4, and was running ok, but its still bedding in the new posiedon barrel an madbull red shark hop rubber, so not performing at its best -my main pistol was my EMG John Wick hi-capa. It was shooting hot on CO2, so i ran it on gas, but found that it didnt want to cycle at all on green gas on saturday or this morning, but worked well on red gas. i swapped back to green one the temperature started to rise, but only used it for a couple of shots in the afternoon - i ran my Northeast Sten MkII this morning, but only had a few mags. while i had ammo it was running well, but the game was too fast paced for me to spend ages at CP reloading mags, so i swapped it out for the AAP-01. the Sten was shooting well and i really wish i could have run it for longer. - i ran my AAP-01 with a drum mag, and just like Impulse, it was outranging most AEGs on site and firing laser straight... at least until i took a shot and the slide/bold jammed solid half open.. about to strip it now, and will post the results in the aap owners thread, but i suspect it has broken its hammer there was a lot of pyro thrown around, but i have to say that both sides were equally as guilty. plus in many instances a grenade was the only way to deal with a dug in enemy player (or several)

  29. Just got home from ai500 and had a cracking weekend! Definitely some hiccups and hurdles that will need to be smoothed out going forward. The good: Finally getting to play alongside the staff from Worthing for the first time in about 13 years, since skirmish weekends they are busy marshalling and running the site. Also, we were all staying in the same hotel, so the out of game social was amazing fun too. The site itself. The Citadel has some amazing potential for future ai500s. Out-ranging other AEGs with my 1.1J m21. Put a lot of effort into that build, so it's nice to see it paying off. Haha, AAP-01 go brrrr. No, seriously, I was only allowed to fire it semi-auto, but it was the first time I was using it and it was also out-ranging AEGs. Quality gun, that. Met some fantastic players on green team. Yeah, there were some absolute spanners, but the majority I spoke to seemed to be some really great guys and gals. Good arm workout. Carting that m21 around, then also having to pump up my tiny little HPA bottle not once, but twice! On that, I also worked out how many shots it's good for. The answer is around 500 BBs. More than enough for a normal game day, but when there are 200 targets and some gale force winds to deal with, I shoot a lot more shots The bad: The weather. I've never played in such piss poor weather before. 70+ mph winds and a torrential downpour for most of Saturday. Made it worse that the wind was blowing in our faces, so we couldn't see anything (and one guy in my team reported one of his BBs flew back at him after he fired it ?) Teething issues. Some stuff they did just... didn't work. I think they'll iron these out for future events, but as the maiden voyage for this site there were some definite issues with the gameplay. Some sketchy play. I'm looking down a scope, I can see my BBs bouncing off people and them just continuing like nothing is wrong. Too much pyro. I have no idea how many pyros the tans were throwing, but on Saturday I only died 6 times and they were all to grenades. I'd hazard a guess that multiple hundreds of grenades were thrown on Saturday alone People gave up early. At one point on Sunday we were outnumbered 4 - 1. Not allowing bolt action sniper rifles. There were so many looooooooooooooong sight lines that a 2.3J bolt action would've been incredibly useful. 1.48J DMRs isn't enough for those sight lines. Ol' reliable TM mk23 fell out of its holster and something snapped in the trigger unit when it hit the ground, so that's going to be a fun tech job to repair. Airsoft is a social hobby, so while the bad technically outnumbers the good, the good points were far more impactful than the bad.

The only thing I don't like about this release is I'm now worried they'll update the recoil line of ARs and the ones I already own will suddenly feel quite obsolete lol. I am stoked to get my MP5 next week though, I think this is TM's best release in a long time and I like a lot of what they do. My personal preference isn't the SD aesthetic but I'm sure a lot of people out there will want to know what brand SD handguard and suppressor you have on there so they can make their own.

    What have you made?

I may not like it but no arguing with the design or the practicality of the end outcome. Eliminating the outer barrel entirely was definitely a smart move in the context.

  38. I dub thee: The WWSD - 'What Would Speedbird Do' Blaster. If you know, you know. The aim was a super light weight gun for all-round use. It's an unused ICS Sportline I have knocking about (hence shit camo job). It was a light weight plastic gun anyway, but had a wobbly/bendy front end that I was never happy with. So - 50mm Carbon tube hand guard. 3D printed barrel nut, hand guard end cap and barrel stub. ICS Stubby stock. No Outer barrel - the inner barrel is supported by the hand guard end cap. I replaced the RIS receiver rail with a 3D Printed blanking plate. I also added a flared magwell, 3D printed from a thingiverse file that I modded to better fit. No sights (never use 'em anyway - hi-cap 'spray and pray' for the win). It's my 40th Birthday in a couple weeks. Missus is buying me a nice Sparmax airbrush/compressor set, so the receiver will get some kind of 'interesting' paint job. I know, haters gonna hate. But I like it, and that's all that matters to me...?

  42. So for those that dont know im an armoursmith/ blacksmith and ive decided to take on a gun project using these skills. Specifically the ultimax 100 mk 5 because I love the ultimax but Id also like to be able to use my regular m4 mags and that version has a magwell. Made a mockup so far. A v3 gearbox sits about perfect in this but on the real one the upper and lower recievers are welded together. If I did this Id never be able to get the gearbox out. Im probably gonna try to make it in a way that means the rear end cap can come off and the recievers can come apart. One of the main reasons I chose this gun is because its basically just 90 degree boxes for most of the reciever. Ill probably just be brazing on other pieces of metal for all those details on the side of it. Evetything else will be hammered out of 2-3mm steel. I will probably also be getting a friend to 3d print some of the brackets and internal parts for the barrel and hop. Should be a fun project.

  44. What it says and the reality, is going to be very very different. That to me looks like just the total boundaries. The drops from the green sides into the moat looks around 2 stories. Sunset October is around 7pm. So that's unlikely to be usable. The chunk to the right is going to be parking and camping. You remove the open grass areas, which well are gonna be just that. Leaves you with about 20 very easy to lock down controlled buildings, that are designed to funnel people. Oh and a single bridge across of the bottom left part of the site is going to be so easy to lock down. For the first 20-30 or so people who get over it. No idea how accessible the higher ground is from the moat. So that might change things but this is going to feel a heck of a lot smaller with 200 people shooting you with hicaps. We went to the Gloucester prison and locked down that site with about 50 per site. I mean we have locked down woodlands sites with not many more. That site with 150 would be pretty epic but 400 from my experience of large games, its just going to be a cluster fuck of camping and ammo spamming. That after the first 20mins of any story will fall apart in to a skirmish. Maybe if they limit it to 400 rounds but that they have stated its not going to be milsim. Perhaps I am just jaded but large games usually tend to be pretty terrible mess after a couple of hours of marshalls trying to herd cats. Giving up, just standing back and lobbing the odd pyro for effect.
    1 point
  45. I was surprised they got the go-ahead for this. Friend of mine used to work there as a prison guard, 400 players does sound quite a lot, difficult to judge though. Only 5 mins from me.
