Bought broken vfc mp7 aeg and after few weeks of waiting for trigger micro switch i got it back to working condition with perun ab++ mosfet, bullgear cnc tappet plate and gear clip and entire aeg rewired to work with mosfet apart of mag cut off feature which was removed due to known feeding issues. Rest of the aeg works as intended at 285fps on 0.25g bbs.3 points

I make that 0.0001261148327138J of rotational kinetic energy, or a lot less than that required to hold it up, so it's got to be leeching that (small) amount from the linear. Insignificant compared to the drag, I was just curious, unlike some peasants in here.2 points

0.25s will hop 100% - 0.28s are better and the go to but not 100% sure if they are hoppable with the stock rubber - I am currently running 0.25s despite having a ML Yellow ZCI barrel because the site I went to that was all they had... It's also important to know what type of site you go to. 0.28s are usually better outside and for distance however in cqb you will be suprised how well a 0.20 can perform If you want to upgrade or anything in the future let us know.2 points -

It may be coincidence but this is the only site where I've been hit (in the eyebrow above my eyepro) that actually drew blood. It was a 10m shot from a pistol (probably Co2) Pistols don't generally get tested at sites I know but Co2 ones are not allowed.1 point

Except you can't, because the Magnus effect in the case of airsoft BB's provides lift. It also produces increased turbulence in the BB's wake which contributes to drag which affects the terminal energy. Axial spin in rifled barrels increases range by the conservation of angular momentum which is a whole different kettle of ballistic fish.1 point

Damn you, you're making me defend them...?...they are the only site I've been to that uses barrel socks.I can only relate what I've experienced.Would I tell anyone else to visit there? Not without warnings regarding the chrono especially and as advised there are definately a few regulars who abuse the lack of chrono.I have pressed them about the lack of chrono use at every opportunity, but saying that I haven't been for quite a while. The reason people play there is the same reason they buy kit off of him.......cheap.1 point

Probably knew they didn't have a leg to stand on. I wonder how many people the thieving cnut has had to rip off to pay that off1 point -
It's the advice I always give people who want to get into sniping: get a solid sidearm first! You'll need it. I often joke that I get 1 kill with the rifle and about 10 kills with the pistol each game. It's also part of the reason I kept my m21 and spring VSR to 1.1J, as I'll generally run the HPA VSR if I want 2.3J and an MED, though even when using my 1.1J BASR, I still get more pistol kills even without an MED! I'm currently in the process of upping my game and improving my trigger discipline. Transferring completely away from AEGs in favour of GBBRs (because they're so fun to shoot, I can't go back...), so getting used to 35rd magazines there, but I also may be buying a Tanaka m700 this weekend (another "I don't want to buy anything, but I can't pass up the opportunity" situation, since Tanaka rifles are loooooong out of production) and those gas sniper rifles only run a whopping 10rd magazine, 28rd if you get the extended ones, though I'll be keeping to the short ones. Yeah, you get less "kills" playing like this, but it's so much more satisfying. As a German dude told a teenage me back in Spain when I used to play there: it's not how many you hit, but how you hit them.1 point

yes the angular velocity is a bit of an unknown. in the spreadsheet i made a while back i ended up having to go with a macro and goal seek to just brute force it, hence the whole "20cm of rise" caveat as there needed to be a fixed goal to look for. although tbh a few corners were cut, eg the magnus force was simplified to the force for a cylinder of equivalent cross section rather than doing it properly and splitting it up into increments, or the very oversimplified drag model that treated air as an incompressible fluid. but then i was doing it because i was bored/curious so an approximation was good enough for the aforementioned 1j of muzzle energy and 20cm of rise criteria it would come out as: 63.67 rad/s for 0.2g 79.54 rad/s for 0.25g 97.03 rad/s for 0.3g 133.46 rad/s for 0.4g 173.293 rad/s for 0.5g it's part of the reason why as mentioned, heavier=better doesn't always hold true practically, when the losses in the hop to acheive sufficient spin drop the energy enough to the point where a lighter bb from the same gun would go further. fun anecdote- it's possible to have 2 "sweet spots" for hop, first when you've just enough pressure to get the spin, then turning the hop on further results in the expected overhop, but go too far and the energy will drop to the point where it'll meet a second spot, with a much higher spin but lower energy. although more usually by the time you get to that point the gun just jams.1 point -

Officer work, thanks. With the understanding that it doesn't really matter, I wonder how much rotational energy we have to donate before it has to come from the linear. Moment of inertia of a sphere, I, is 2/5 mR2 Rotation energy is 1/2Iw2, where I is as above, and w is the angular velocity (how fast it's spinning, radians per second if we're doing SI rather than fathoms-per-demihectare). I make that 1/5 mR2w2 We know m (e.g. 0.004kg), R (e.g. 0.002975m), now we just need to paint a BB with a battenburg patten and film it with a high-speed camera to find out w. Granted we're down at 0.0000000070805 w2 for a 0.4g BB, so we're not talking big numbers.1 point -
Not sure about you, but I had to massively up my pistol game to be able to run the semi-auto or bolt-action play style and not get caught out when people get inside of my minimum engagement. I got a little round of “nicely done” from some dead enemy players couple of weekends ago when I took out the last AEG player who was dug into some cover with my KC tucked under my right arm, firing the pistol with my left. More luck than anything, but I landed one on his baseball cap before he could get a bead on me. Big grin behind my mask!1 point

Ebeneezer Goode reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
Cheers, it's woodland with some sort-of cqb 'villages' where we change to single shot. Most of the longer range stuff feels like 20-30, occasionally 40m, but at partial targets - sometimes through a bit of light brush - so accuracy and momentum the key things there! I've had a dig around in my kit box, I found a bag of 0.30s in there I thought I'd already used. And a bag of leftovers which could be anything from 0.20s to 0.28s. Maybe even a pick'n'mix of all 3 weights. Anyway, I'll see if I can lift the 0.30s in the garden.. should be an interesting test! edit: Yes, it'll over-hop .30s. That's the stock rubber that's had probably a hundred rounds through it, at room temperature, at 20m range. Geoff's .30g Bio Natural Precision BB's. Operated by a non-expert user Now obviously I may have so much hop wound on at this point that the fps might be unusably low, and I definitely saw some variability in the trajectories (though that's perhaps down to the new hop rubber, and the newness of the gun as a whole, and me only firing a couple of shots at each setting, with a battery that probably needs a recharge) but it's definitely lifting them successfully. I'll probably order a big bag of 0.28s just to play it a little safe, but when I'm at the site next I'll try to get a chrono reading with the 0.30s Absolutely loving the look and feel of this, and the binary trigger... lurrrrrrvly!1 point -

damn you, making me have to go do math...... so for 0.5 seconds of flight time, with a muzzle energy of 1j and hop set for ~20cm of rise above muzzle: a 0.2g bb will lose 0.002406j due to gravitational potential energy and 0.9j due to drag forces a 0.5g bb will lose 0.006015j due to gravitational potential energy and 0.58j due to drag force granted that's a very oversimplified calculation based on simply the flight time (ie not counting energy that would accelerate the bb upwards to get that 20cm of rise), but then the drag model is pretty over-simplified as well. however the point is it's a negligible amount compared to the primary force which is the conventional drag.1 point -
Cheers. I’ll give it a good few solid racks and if no joy try send it back.1 point

Sadly, they're pretty fragile. I'm not entirely clear on the problem you're having, but would note that the pump has to be fully forwards before the trigger will activate. Since it's currently stuffed, I'd give it a good old heave and slam in both directions. If you start disassembling, you'll end up with an awful lot of small parts and are unlikely to find replacements for any broken bits, so I'd avoid that unless Bullseye don't fancy taking the return.1 point

Well, they do now. I didn't see a resolution to that case one way or the other, I'd assume their insurers settled at the courtroom door. And reminding people to fire until clear? Barrel socks will come to every site eventually, after the dry-firing fun and games turn into someone losing an eye. I've taken to wearing basic ballistic glasses in "safe" zones now too. No chrono, even after being on the sharp end of a negligence suit, is astonishing. While I'm the first to point out that pre-game chrono is largely just theatre, not doing any sort of chronoing at all is appalling, and I would have no doubt that some regulars will be rocking Section 5s or billion-Joule snipers. And I'm the last to suggest escalating situations, but I think that might result in a roundhouse swing with whatever RIF I had to hand. Did you bother even bringing it up with the site?1 point -
The looming deadline for the Rogueworx underlever kit has made me do something financially irresponsible. Underlever kit now on order, The Muzzelite stock is for now in my spares box and this Hogue Overmold has arrived ready for my underlever I’m going to be keeping an eye on the classifieds for the next boneyard KC02 so I’ve got a receiver and trigger box to stick in the Muzzelite. It’s too unique and too ugly to not take to the field. Got a mate working on a solution to make the trigger less, well, bullpuppy too1 point

RostokMcSpoons reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
I'd always suggest a Maple Leaf 50 degree bucking and 0.28g minimum in any AEG these days. Omega nub, no omega nub, I'm back and forth on those, but all of my AEGs can over-hop 0.28g, even the MP5K with a somewhat ropey hop unit.1 point -
Nice one, I'd love to see what you come up with. I agree with keeping the bulk down, I trimmed quite a lot off of my original templates in order to get full mobility and articulation. In particular, torso armour needs to be truncated or articulated if you intend to crouch or bend. Me, or the horny xeno-girl? You know what... let's preserve the mystery.1 point

Well they should also be making sure guns are cleared too. As a business they have a duty of care to paying customers (especially under 18s) and should be actively enforcing safety rules, rather than just paying them lip service. By being proactive and stopping potential incidents they wouldn't have to worry about reacting after any damage is done1 point -

Didn't that also happen in the safe zone? If so then imo the staff are responsible to a point as they should be making sure nobody is walking in with a mag in the gun Edit: just read the article and I agree that the site fucked up big time through negligence1 point -
I fully agree that airsoft sites should only have airsoft toys at them. Even if you know what you've brought, the skip licker who thinks it's funny to pick it up and "pew" it at someone won't. I include metal pellet air guns in that, I've seen folk shooting them on airsoft ranges. In this case it seems like actual live rounds were loaded (why were there even any on site?) and they'd already had this happen on set, to big shrugs. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-10-22/alec-baldwin-rust-camera-crew-walked-off-set Somebody should be going to jail for that, either the armourer, the AD who said "cold gun", or Baldwin. I hope we'd agree with the basic principle that you should always assume that a gun (airsoft or otherwise) is loaded until you've personally verified otherwise. Even - and especially - if you're an anti-gun activist like Baldwin. That wasn't an "accident", it was negligence.1 point

Film blank prop guns are completely different to publicly available ones. (in UK) Prop guns have a partial restriction in the barrel to increase back pressure but gas is vented from the barrel like a real gun. Public sector blank guns vent vertically from a hole in the top of the barrel. I'm going to assume the cause of this accident was similar to that which killed Brandon Lee... (It was the fault of the armourer for not checking the barrel properly) In one scene they used prop rounds in a magazine or being loaded etc. These may be real round which are inert or plastic ones that look like real bullets. Unfortunately a plastic bullet came off the shell and stuck in the barrel. When blanks were used in another scene the plastic bullet was fired and broke apart when it hit the barrel obstruction but the bits that exited still had enough energy to kill at close range. Nothing like this can happen with consumer blank firers except if someone purposely pushed something into the vent hole. Even then it probably wouldn't have enough energy to cause serious harm.1 point
