note the lesson kids- us in the airsoft community get that 2-toning is a necessary evil to allow us to keep pewing, so when you turn up nobody is going to judge you if your g&g raider is bright blue, trust us it's not as bad as what some folks voluntarily do to their guns. unless you 2-tone something nice, then we're gonna judge you to be the heretic that you are.3 points -

for the case of the "standard" 2-tone is it that bad a loss? it is an interesting question, for example the aps uar being not a replica by dint of there being no gun (or gun-shaped prop) that it resembles. wasn't it you that used the "man on the clapham omnibus" example to point out it just needs to be realistic enough to fool joe public? kind of ironic that a cap&ball colt would be just as recognizable to joe public and yet is exempt being pre 1870.2 points -
Joking aside though, why? Just why Coral? Sure, I bought a two toned plastic CYMA M4 off the buzz from my first day, but it cost £75, it was painted over, and the paint was off before my second day. Even if you just want it as a wall hangar, even if you can't persuade someone to sell you a RIF (more on that in a moment), why wouldn't you factor in getting it repainted. It's not even gangster to do so, because it's not an imitation of an actual make or model of modern firearm (whether existing or discontinued), so there's no VCRA offence committed by either sale or modification. I look at that horror and all I can think is "My God, someone please save it." Wait, was it... was it bought to troll people? Because if so, mission accomplished.2 points

Saw this advert wasn’t sure from the description if it was actually working or not so asked the seller and basically he’s replied with “was told it was but if interested I can try getting it working again” SO he’s asking 60? under the new retail price for a bolloxed gun ! ? So yea thinks Mack’s is the appropriate place for this ??♂️2 points

Currently isolating as I've tested positive for the dreaded covid and decided to go through some of my cam footage of the very first time I played airsoft and it picked up a very glorious war cry.... https://streamable.com/2322jv2 points

Yep, as @concretesnailsaid, something went wrong with the prep of the bare metal so the first coat didn't adhere properly. You'll have to take it all off then rough up the surface with some heavy steel wool (you can get at the pound shop for cleaning pots & pans) or around 400 grit sandpaper. Then degrease the whole thing with Isopropyl alcohol or kitchen degreaser. A primer coat will ensure good results because that's what its for but you could try a thin layer of paint straight away and then test it to see if it stays. Oh and don't use Nuprol paint. Use car spray paints (Enamel)2 points

At first I was not confident but since getting some tips on here I've been practicing a lot on various scrap metal painted black, watched many instructional videos and I decided I'm even going to attend a military fair where I can see actual vintage firearms in person so I think I can do a decent job If a vintage sniper rifle could talk I think it would say "I want to show that I did not spend my life as a wallhanger"2 points

I wear almost all my airsoft toys to look used and more authentic (without going too far to hurt resale value too much) Having worked in a film studio props department obviously helped with the practice and guidance but youtube can provide a lot of information now. You just need something to practice on but its hard to really mess things up completely. As @rocketdogbertsaid, look for plenty of reference to know what to aim for. As a starting point, you can use steel wool (the ones from the pound shop for cleaning pots etc) Rub on metal parts to remove paint in areas that would naturally get worn. Start gently doing figure '8' all over and continue until satisfied with the result. (It will take about an hour to do a rifle depending how worn you want it and how much metal there is) Don't use sand-paper as its very difficult to be even. For wood. You can do a quick/easy method that's reversible or go full on to really make it look authentic. The easy one is to spray a THIN coat of matt black all over it and then rub most of it off with the same steel wool as before. Very gently in figure '8's again. (circles are not even) You should probably check youtube for the more involved method which involves staining and giving the wood some bashing as well. This is my CYMA M14 with plastic furniture. Light wear on the metal and the darkening effect on the 'wood'2 points

It's pre-pre-weekend o'clock, but I think I might have whipped that out to spice up a handbag fight over: 1) A trivial to obtain airgun firearm which might also be considered a verboten VCRA RIF by the Clapham Omnibus test. or 2) To illustrate the FA definition of an S57 “imitation firearm”. Me, I'd consider a Pulse Rifle to be an IF for the purposes of FA S19 (public possession, remember that bigly genius here who was intending to open-carry one on a bus because "Herp derp, is not real, innit."), but not as a RIF for VCRA S36/S38. For VCRA sales purposes, the risk is entirely up to the seller. Although it's increasingly surprising that any of them actually give a stuff about what they're selling or to whom, given the apparent complete disinterest from the tools of the State.1 point

its not hard and theres a great amount you can do. weither you want to use the wire wool on metal or make plastic look like worn metal by dry brushing a little bit of metallic paint on raised edges or go full hog as add rust with iron powders etc (im more post apocalypse airsoft so go more with that for the rare attempt at a game i get) get referance pictures of what your thinking and go from there. theres more than a few great inspirational threads here1 point

The best I've come across is Super Lube Silicone, stuff is fantastic and long lasting, really weird properties as well, not sure what they put in it. I also use Sealeys, it does the job but doesn't last as long.1 point -

The amazing part is that it didn't spontaneously combust. I'd fully expect to have to use an acid etch primer on whatever random monkey-metal any airsoft toy has been made from.1 point

Depending on the paint and the material you might need a primer or adhesion promoter. The tearing sounds like the paint might have been too thick and has skinned, with the other dry but softer material under the skin. Prep is always the key to success with paint; clean old coating, key and degrease, primer/adhesion layer, paint in thin layers so it doesn't skin and prevent cure. I'd clean it all off and have another go, possibly change paints to something more recognised, krylon etc.1 point -
So it started around 310 when I got it around father's day and dropped to 280 over time. I popped the gearbox out and cycled the piston back to where I could lube the o-ring. (You can use a fingernail or small screwdriver to rotate the o-ring to get the whole thing. Went back up immediately. Also a huge problem with mine was they used too much glue on the red tip and it glued the inner to the outer barrel. The barrel is not supped to be locked in place. Also swap the barrel spring that is around the barrel that contacts the upper. It was odd shaped, almost conical.1 point

I was trying to buy smallest possible torch with integrated grip to use on pistols. I found one made by UTG but nowhere to buy anythere outside US. So I decided to make my own. The hardest part was to find smallest possible torch with instant on light and highest possible lumens. The one I got is a size of AA battery and has real output of 650 lumens. Not bad for such tiny EDC torch. Next step was easy with bit of help from thingiverse and my limited cad skills I manage to produce this it's tiny c.8x6cm!! tested on the game day and was better than expected perfect pistol torch with grip1 point

Snap! Same as me.? Go along on Saturday and have a great day.just play at your own pace and don't be browbeaten into anything you are not happy with. Remember you are paying so it's your game to play it as you want? Take water out with you and have a glug now and again. Hope the weather holds for you. Enjoy yourself. Let us known how it goes. First thing I'd do is to get some silicone lube (liquid or spray), take it apart, and put the lube up the nozzle and swish it around. Then I agree with checking the hob rubber while you let the lube sink in. Then blow the lube out of the nozzle with an auto burst (which should also get some on the nozzle o-ring if you have one) until it shoots clear and dry before re-assembling. Might help, might not, but it's quick and easy to try before stripping the gearbox.1 point -

Why do you ask @gasman? Is it because you are a young person and think older players should act their age and stay home or are you an older player who just wants validation for playing? I say play whatever your age if you get enjoyment out of it.? ( I'm late 60's) Regards1 point -

The 'What have you just bought' Thread

A few little bits and pieces have turned up in the last couple of days... The sling was from Action Hobbies' bargain bin. Bought on a whim, it's pretty good. It'll get replaced by a QD 2-point sling eventually. The scope mounts are a bargain from Ant Supplies. Delivered very quickly, free p&p. I decided these mounts are too low, so I straight away ordered some extra tall ones, £6.50 (I've got a decent red-dot, but fancied using that old 4x32 scope I've had since I was a kid, to see how it plays) The M4 tool came from Ant Supplies too. Thought it'd be useful to have when I'm futzing around with my old CA M15. The Kombat UK holster is pretty decent for a cheapo. At least if fits on my Molle properly, unlike the belt loop one I had before that I had to lash in place with paracord. The BB Pouch was also bought on a whim... it'll be useful if I keep running hi-caps, perhaps even more so if I go ahead with buying mid-caps. And last, and perhaps least, the Project Airsoft stubby grip. Hmmm... 3D-printed rather than moulded, not what I really expected. It fits fine, but just looks cheap close-up. The grey grip tape is so fierce it can do double duty as a sanding block, but I guess it'll grip into my gloves (and perhaps shred them). The best thing about is - I'm now sure I want a vertical grip on my gun - so I'll go and buy this one from Airsoft Anonymous I got a couple more bits from Project Airsoft that aren't in the pic (as they're small and wouldn't show) - a high-cap mini funnel device, and a M92 gas mag 'thumb saver'. The funnel will work, but I'll probably lose it. The M92 doesn't fit my M9 mag (but probably will with some filing)... and I'll probably lose that too!1 point -

Eh. You might be done after a motor swap, that's why I suggested that first. I've been pleasantly surprised by the boost in response and ROF just from dropping cheap Big Dragon M140s into my AEGs, without doing anything inside the gearboxes, or going to 11.1V. Still, having a stock backup is always a good idea, and there's certainly nothing wrong with shifting the Firehawk to the back of the bag.1 point -

So did my first day playing Airsoft today over at Airsoft Plantation. Went with a friend who turns out has been going for some time! Mostly had a good time, absolutely shattered though! Don't think my body has moved like that (short running bursts, kneeling down, bending round corners etc) for around 2 years. THINK I mostly kept up with the pace, there were a few times I was happy to stay back a bit lol. As a first timer, my biggest challenge was knowing the map. Marshalls explained the game and where we needed to go etc, but not knowing where they are, meant I was just following others around quite a bit. Think once ive been there a few more times, ill start to get to know where everything is and have more of a equal playing field to the regulars. (Maybe i should have asked the marsalls for a map or something...). Did feel guilty at one point as a nade went off which I thought was 7-8 meters away (where they say anyone within 5m is hit), but marshall called me out to say it hit me, happily took the hit without question, just didnt want to come across as cheating at all. Overall I enjoyed myself and can only see it getting better, Health Stats: Fat Burn Minutes: 217 (119-140bpm) Cardio Minutes: 182 (141-167bpm) Peak Heart Rate: 155bpm Calories Burnt: 4,3241 point
