  2. 417 drum adapter v3b is good enough to show pics of. v2 and v3 were based off the Angel Customs drum, instead of the A&K SR-25 drum that v1 used, as that drum apparently sucks, and neither lasted through a single game day. v3c will likely be the final version, I just gotta make a little more room for the rear of the adapter to drop down. Not gonna be a big enough change for a v4. Three part, requires a donor AC M4 adapter, two M3x25mm bolts, one M3x14mm bolt, and three M3 square nuts. Complete reversible back to M4 adapter, so no wasted parts. You’re just using the sliding door, BB retention wedge, and spring. Since then I printed a low infill v3c and it fit, so now I have the final prototype of the two inner parts printing, and if those are all good then we will have a finished version.

  3. I'm definitely getting a theme - if ain't broke, don't try and upgrade it. ? I've got fair few others, so it's not my only gun... but is my favourite gun. I just felt with all my new acquisitions, she might be getting jealous. It stung when, at my son's first game, his Double Eagle M89 (UMP) chronoed at 300fps and mine, a weathered 270-280. His reaction was golden: "What does that mean Daddy?" "It means your pokey little gun can shoot further than mine bud." "Don't worry Daddy... I'll cover you while you get closer. You did say you like doing that leapard crawl thing." Little sh*t. ?

  4. A man sees a sign outside a farmhouse: 'Talking Dog For Sale'....He rings the bell, the owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back garden. The man sees a very nice looking Black Labrador Retriever sitting there. "Do you really talk?" He asks the dog. "Yes!" The Labrador replies. After recovering from the shock of hearing the dog talk, the man asks, "So, tell me your story!" The Labrador looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I joined the Garda. "In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world drug lords, because no one imagined that a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years, But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at Dublin airport to do some undercover security work, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded several medals. I got married, had a few puppies, and now I've just retired!" The man is amazed. He goes back into the house and asks the owner how much he wants for the dog. "Ten quid!" The owner says. “A tenner??But this dog is absolutely amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheaply?" "Because he's a lying cunt. He's never been out of the garden!"

  9. Whilst i wholeheartedly agree in principle with the above, there are some issues with the gun you have chosen that really should be rectified with some (non-invasive) upgrades. Perhaps these are not 'upgrades', more like fixes to make your experience a whole lot nicer. The G&G Raider-L 2.0 is equipped with G&G's notorious ETU unit which (unless recently rectified by G&G) has been a royal pain in the rectum when it comes to batteries (and reliability!) for many a player. The low-voltage cutoff will simply shut the gun down prematurely unless you are using 9.6v NiMhs, or 11.1v LiPos (bye bye warranty with some retailers with the latter). Commonly used 7.4v LiPo's can be very problematic. The fitting of a Perun ETU++ will fix this issue, it's a simple plug-in job that does not require the receiver to be opened up. You can then use a small 7.4v LiPo (space is a premium in that little PDW stock receiver extension). Problem is - you are then left with the godawful stock ferrite motor which ain't great on a 7.4v LiPo. So factor in an SHS/Rocket Hi Torque replacement. On my son's G&G CM16 SRS (essentially the same gun internally), I have only replaced those two items and it's now a lovely little shooter (still using the stock barrel and hop rubber). Snappy enough on the trigger, but not crazy ROF, but with the extra benefit of the programming options on the Perun unit. Just my 2 pence.

  13. generally i tend to suggest cleaning the barrel before every outing, it might be dirty, it might not, but if you clean it before every game then it definitely won't be dirty. it's not particularly time consuming or difficult and it's amazing how much performance can be lost through lack of cleaning. suggesting upgrades is a very personal thing as it'll depend a lot on what particular area of performance you want to improve, and how far you want to go in improving it. so the general advice is leave it alone, go and play a few games, then start thinking "what is my gun not doing well enough for me?", followed up by "how much better will i be happy with?", then you can come back with a more specific question and we can advise on what areas you'd want to look at to address that issue. you'll also get a good feel on how well the gun performs so when you start tinkering you have an idea whether or not the work you've done has actually made the gun any better, because that's not necessarily a guarantee.

  14. You rarely need to clean the barrel but mainly when its new out of the factory. (I've polished the barrel on some of mine too) Experienced players might upgrade a new gun because they know what needs doing to change a certain characteristic and they have other guns as spares if something doesn't work. Some upgrades do not work well with other stock parts so it takes some experience to know what parts work well with others. We recommend playing with what you have until you have an idea of what you want to improve and then research how to do it. You might have a gun that performs better than average and not know it...
    2 points
  15. We generally recommend NOT to upgrade a new gun. It often takes a few hundred BB's through it to bed in. As @concretesnailsaid, important to clean the barrel. (Be careful with the hop when cleaning) The best thing you can do at the moment is to change the connector to DEANS and get a couple of good Li-Po batteries and intelligent charger. Search the forum for more info...

    Ares Keltec RDB

I played my first Airsoft game in November and was very quickly hooked. I originally wanted an SA80 rep but I was not overly happy with the fit and feel. I ended up with an Ares Keltec RDB as the balance, weight and fit into the shoulder felt excellent and very natural. Since purchase I have made a few mods to it. Piccatinny rails to the foregrip. Dremelled out the inside of the foregrip to accept a bigger battery. Fabricated and fitted a rear sling fixing so I could use an SA80 sling SHS High Torque Motor Maxx Pistonhead (waiting for delivery of a Max cylinder & cylinder head Maxx nozzle ZCI 6.02 barrel (taped to remove movement inside the outer barrel) and Purple Prom bucking SHS M100 spring So far I am very happy with it, all working well and quite accurate with good range. Although I will always be chasing more accuracy and range. I am not fussed about RPS as our main site is single shot only. Next up is a Krytac SPR that I have most of the internal upgrades ready to install, just waiting for a couple of parts that should arrive soon so I can begin work.

  23. Hi. Like many, this project was started a long time ago. If you are a lover of shotguns you know the H&S mad max shottie shells are terrible. After acquiring x10 madbul Co2 shells a friend lathed up an adapter to run through the gun. Post covid I have dusted it all off and only 2 madbul shells have a small leak. I haven't stripped them down yet but I'm sure the reset mechanism is going to end up pinging across the room. I have spotted a few madbul shell copies out there and purchased a Show Girls mini launcher with a shell mainly to test the shell. Side by side the two brands are pretty close only time and pressure will tell if the Show Girls is as reliable as the Madbul. The adapter works well and gives you a total capacity of x12 6mm bb's. My shottie barrels are 8mm and this will be my room clearing shell. The old adapters were one offs and took a lot of time. I'm looking in to 3D printing more shell adapters and will open the hole out to 8mm so you have a combi of x5 6mm in the shell and x5 8mm in the adapter. One problem with the original lathed adapters was getting tooling in to put a seal groove in the end for bb retaining. 3D printed I'm thinking you could easily offset the seal to create a bit of hop. I hope this gets you thinking and dusting off unfinished projects.

  26. It's always risky tinkering with a sole gun, given the potential to make it worse, or unusable. The basic non-ETU G&Gs are solid candidates for clean-it-then-leave-it-alone reliable workhorses. They don't come with a big list of trick parts like a Specna or Lancer Tactical, but if you get a good one, they can work very well indeed. I agree with @Speedbird_666 that the stock motors aren't great, and that's an easy enough swap, as above (I like the value proposition of Big Dragon M140 motors bought direct from AliExpress, to chisel every penny, but there's more of a risk and a wait with them). Electrics can be a bit trickier, but the Perun ETU++ does take the worry out of that. It's telling that Perun have come up with a mosfet specifically to sort the notorious issues with the G&G ETU. If you want to fling more money at it, you can look at the parts in front of the gearbox. ZCI and AOLS barrels tend to be pretty decent for not a lot of money, but as always with Chinesium parts its entirely down to the example you receive. ZCI plastic rotary hop units work well, as do Maple Leaf hop rubbers and Maple Leaf (or clone) Omega nubs. There's always a danger of introducing misfeeding or an air leak when fiddling with the hop and rubber, and they can be very frustrating to diagnose or fix as they only need a fraction of a mm misadjustment either way to manifest. That risk can be ameliorated if you replace the barrel, hop unit and rubber as one, keeping the original G&G assembly aside and untouched. If you do have problems on game day, it's literally a couple of minutes to swap the original back in. Just please be aware that "upgrading" an airsoft gun can make it worse, or no better than the original parts, which are all designed to work together. It's great fun to tinker, but generally after you have a spare to hand.

  36. To give myself a few more options on game day, and not wanting to go all out on Crye gear (yet!) I ordered a couple of sets of Emerson G3 copies from good old Ali Express. Along with bog standard multicam, I've gone for multicam tropic and honest to goodness woodland. Added a new woodland boonie as well. Also added a C2R IFAK to my shooters belt, and, to show the MWS a little love, some Gun Sav. It is almost Valentine's Day so some lube seemed appropriate.

Would you not be better informed to contact one of the ww1 reenactment groups on fb etc, not doubting any of the info given by members here, just that most airsofters tend to be "Jack of all trades" when it comes to loadouts, often having numerous to choose from. ? A quick search shows 2 very specific groups of interest ? (PS I might suggest you don't initially mention Airsoft, not everyone gets it & if the groups are stitch counters or historians they may not like the idea of the regiment being depicted via big boys shooting each other with toy guns ?, just a thought ?)

  41. A very slow start to the year for one reason or another. Usual game day at Tuddenham run by Gunman. End of the month skirmish rather than filmsim, but I needed to play pretty desperately. The weather was nice and bright although the frost stayed most of the day in a few shady places. Very little wind at all, which can make games a bit one sided at some sites, so pretty perfect for January. The place looked very busy, with a full complement of players. There are never too many with the booking system having a sensible cap even pre-C19. The morning games were in the woods. After a quick death match to warm everyone up, coats and jumpers were discarded, and a game of accompanying the flag to the well took place. The first game was huge fun, the defending team playing very well, and the attackers putting up a really spirited attack. The turnaround was even better. The attacking team really played very well, coordinating themselves tightly as possible with an ad hoc squad, and taking some very reckless attempts to gain the objective. The finale was a huge series of runs at the target through an almost endless wall of plastic. I lost count of the number of attempts, but each one was great fun to see. As I was defending, I enjoyed trying to hit each moving target on single shot, as I had decided to take my new K98. The rifle performed flawlessly, being consistent, accurate and fairly flat shooting for a rif. I got a surprising amount of kills with it and a massive sense of satisfaction from doing so. I did use my M4 for the last five minutes as it seemed a mite selfish to the other team members to handicap myself when they were playing so competitively. It is the most fun rif I’ve used for an introduction to its foibles. I’m really glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and used a bolt action. Lunch was taken up by chatting to the old friend that I gave a lift to. It was shocking how long we had not seen each other. We both seem to have spent lockdown buying obscure Soviet milsurp gear. The afternoon games were in the village. I went over to the M4, but in hindsight should have used my shotgun. The first game saw a tight defence and pretty tight attacks. I managed to get into a position with a good field of fire and few approaches, but someone did flank me in the end. I had a stack of kills to my account so no shame, and I shouted my congratulations to whoever the marksman was. A couple of us had such good lines of sight through one building from the bushes in which we hid, that a marshal checked that we had not sneaked into the buildings themselves which were out of bounds. Eventually I was spotted and a chap got me with a cracking shot that more than equalled my own efforts. The turnaround was even better with some really aggressive attacks that were held up by even more aggressive defence. TBH some of the playing got too competitive and there was some creeping into forbidden positions and I overshooting, but the play was so fast and furious that it did not spoil things, at least for me. I didn’t hear any angry shouts and heard little moaning so it did not seem to matter much to others either. I did get hit by a MK5 that went off beside my head as it fell, which was bloody painful as my friend had forgotten his radio, and I had left mine in the car along with the ear defenders etc. Bizarrely it didn’t set my tinnitus off (and wont fingers crossed) but I still can’t hear quite right nearly six hours later. Such things happen, and it was impossible to have been done with any malice. I only mention it to remind us that ear pro is a good idea. The game ended with some really excellent toing and froing with positions being taken and retaken, with some good personal duals developing between players. The last game was an unusual affair played in the trenches. Four players entered, and when hit were replaced by another, the order of new players being formed by a simple queue at the edge of the trench on the earthworks. The players who waited their turn on the earthworks shouted directions to the players in the trench system. I had not played this game before and it was an absolute blast. My first two attempts were pretty poor, but my third and fourth were really good. The key was to play as fast as possible and to lay down a fair bit of fire. Trying my usual sneaky style of playing was pretty useless. In all, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. The games were a lot more involved than the last time that I played under this marshal team, who did their usual excellent job. I don’t mind players becoming carried away and actually playing the game harder, it beats sullen hanging back. I really had a blast using a bolty for once, and am looking forward to using it for milsims etc. Shock horror, I nearly used my pistol today thanks to the K98. Running red gas it ran fine in the low temp. I didn’t actually shoot the thing for the first time in my airsoft career but there we go. I ended the day dog tired with several cuts from brambles, a load of welts from BBs and a feeling that I had properly worked out, throwing myself around like a loon. Rushing to and from buildings, I ended up throwing myself out of the window and straight into the ground in order to make use of cover three times in one game. I might ache at school tomorrow… Overall, the same excellent day that I have grown to expect, I shall be back very soon.

  43. Mixed day for me, mostly good but one downer and one item lost So off to Special Ops for the first game of the year. I spent so much time sorting out my kit my wife was taking the piss out of me... Revenge for New Year's Eve when she packed a suitcase for one night and I ripped on her ? The downer was when I took my newly painted F2000 to the range to dial in the hop at full distance for the first time. Chronoing bang on 350fps with. 20g, the damn thing would not lift my 0.28g BB's at all and consequently would not get past 30m. I only had a handful of 0.20s left so that wasn't an option really I took the gun to the play field but just stuck with the DE, and had a great time with it. I did take the F2000 with me, and this is where I lost a bit of kit. The sight protector bought from eBay for my Amazon-special Kingscope red dot got knocked off somewhere in transit. I'll have to get another and fix it in place... Velcro or glue. Did get a compliment from the site tech about the F2000's paint job, so I was keen to fix it at lunchtime to use it for the rest of the day I decided to do some field tech work on the hop. I reinforced the nub with a small length of fine plastic straw inserted in to it That didn't seem to make the bucking impinge too much into the barrel but I started getting lots of misfeed and double feeds. So I 'abandoned shit' and left it behind for the afternoon. Bought a second hi capa mag to cheer myself up ? More good times with the DE ... Great day out, good sportsmanship all round.
