I've had mine for several months now, and I'm really loving it. I've had a few minor niggles, that through trial & error I've managed to sort. My thoughts (and based solely on my experience): First of all, in its stock set-up, and using 0.45s it will shoot straight up to around about 65m, but lack the lift for anything more, despite what I've seen online. It shoots very well up to that point though. I bought some of the modify H nubs to improve it, and they definitely helped with lift. However, one problem I noticed is that it would shoot lovely in the morning, but once lunch hit and warmer temperatures my accuracy would take a nosedive. I tried out a few different set-ups with varying performance before eventually settling on the original style bucking but in 70º (The standard is 60º I believe), paired with the blue modify nub. Maximum confirmed hit I've had with it so far has been 92 yards, due to summer overgrowth at the site I've been using it at, getting a clear line of sight has been a problem, so further may well be possible. This has seemed to have sorted it, and I've run it all day for a few games without issue now. (Fingers crossed ?) Barring those initial issues, it's been absolutely wonderful, and probably to be expected, much as you would if you were building or upgrading your own, so not big deal I guess? It's got a fairly hefty initial price tag, but compared to what I've probably spent upgrading my VSR/T10/T11s etc. I'd say it's come out much cheaper at the end. A new bucking and nub and it's shooting at least as well as my other, older rifles. The only other thing I would consider doing to it is finding a new piston to make it as quiet as possible, once such things are available, but that's purely preference and not essential.3 points

A Boeing 777 was on its way across the Atlantic when all of a sudden a USAF F35 pulled up along side. "Boring flight huh?" the fighter pilot said over the radio. "Watch this". The fighter then accelerated away, breaking the sound barrier before performing loops and rolls, then returning alongside the passenger jet. "What do you think of that?" the fighter pilot called over the radio. "Not bad, watch this" comes the reply from the 777 A few minutes go by and the big jet continues to fly dead straight and level. Finally the radio crackles to life "Well, what do you think?" "About what? You didn't do anything" asks the confused fighter pilot. "Yes I did" comes the reply "I got up, went for a piss, made a coffee and arranged a date with a stewardess in a 5* hotel, that's paid for by the airline"3 points -

Always use buyer protection. Paypal doesn't care about what it is as long as it is a legit purchase and not illegal. I've had to claim twice. Once as the seller and once as the buyer for a RIF and both times it was clear what the sale was regarding and they sided with me because one was fraud and the other was a dick who didn't understand that second hand airsoft guns can go wrong and that no warranty is provided. Airsoft rifs are fully legal in the UK and as such you really should have no issue with paypal siding on the side of right or wrong in a transaction.2 points

The VCRA is a joke
frontsight and one other reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
Not high profile, no, it's buried in the firearms figures. There have been a few cases of rascals with RIFs either deliberately trying to get themselves shot, or begging for it, but in most cases our Dakka Dibble show admirable restraint and just beanbag them in the balls. It is fairly irksome that the only sellers who really seem to give a stuff about the VCRA are airsoft retailers. I mean, if you wanted a realistic imitation of a real firearm with no wait, you could buy an air gun over the counter, or just pop down to your local market stalls.2 points -
hop questions
DJsnipe and one other reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
Yep, whats worse is that twiddling the barrel doesnt strictly move the hop bucking at the same rate as the barrel (cos it can stretch), ends up not quite centred over the barrel window even if its centred to the hop. Maddening! This is one of the things that differentiates a good hop unit from a bad hop unit, the centering of the window over the barrel, being a good fit for seal but not too tight, the c clip holding the barrel even closer to square. Only hop unit i've met that does this perfectly is the combat union ak unit, but then that thing is ridiculously overbuilt with the pricetag to match..... Usually they tend to stay in position relatively well, outside of installing the hop/barrel unit into the reciever theres not much load on the barrel aside from being pushed straight forwards.2 points -
It's amazing how many guides and techs don't mention this. The c-clip on the hop unit only holds the barrel in approximately the correct orientation and I've become mildly obsessed with making tiny rotations to get the mound centred. Hop off, rotate the barrel a smidge, hop to full, eyeball, and repeat until your OCD is satiated.2 points

His argument for "F&F" payment is bullshit, fees aren't very high, & should be incorporated into the asking price if he's that tight. As for PayPal support, as has been pointed out they've changed their T&C's, so yet more bullshit from the seller, definitely not to be trusted?2 points

Definitely questions raised isn't it. Maybe they have been bitten by a someone on the other end where the Sellar hasnt taken the neseccary precautions. Nah the more I try and justify it the louder it shouts 'fuck pew and I don't want repercussions'2 points -
You using a RIF will cause no issues. if someone wants to gift you a Rif then that’s perfectly acceptable. It’s only at point of sale that it becomes tricky. you cannot legally buy a RIF yourself until you are 18 and have a ‘defence’2 points

The VCRA is a joke
frontsight reacted to Floperator for a topic
Unpopular opinion: Even though the VCRA has made life difficult for me and many other shooters in lots of ways, I did *get* it, particularly with regard to RIFs and IFS. I pretty much agree that guns should look like guns and things that aren't, shouldn't. I'm broadly in favour of kids not getting shot by AR units because they're playing with cap guns etc. Which is why it PISSES ME OFF that of all industries affected, the toy industry alone does not seem to take the VCRA at all seriously, and there seem to be no consequences for them breaching it. I see toy guns all the time in dull colours, or a token small brightly coloured part. What ground my gears in particular this weekend was seeing this water pistol, which is basically a full size M4 replica. Am I just being an old granny or is this taking the piss?1 point -
Well after a long sabbatical from the sport I am now back and I finally got round to finishing of the Taran Tactical TR1 John Wick. It uses the Angry Gun TTI TR1 John Wick kit. Before a few of you tell me about the evil of Angry Gun parts, all the internals are all MWS apart from a tan bucking and a longer 6.05 inner barrel. Also I didn't pay the absurdly expensive price of £900 or whatever it was. I got it off a former member on here that bought it just to get an upper he had broken. I got eh whole thing including a near full MWS for a bargain price. Regarding the quality of the kit, I did have to do a little bit of light engineering to get the trigger mechanism to fit in the lower but everything else in the kit fitted quite nicely. I also fitted a new BCG with a built in NPAS ( I can't remember the name as I bought it over 2 years ago and never fitted it. I gave it a test fire and with the NPAS wound all the way in (max power) this thing is bloody powerful. I will run it through the Chrono tomorrow to see what it is coming out as then adjust accordingly. The second photo also shows my original Block 1 MWS for size comparison which is totally standard and totally bullet proof!1 point

First gun - Help me choose a M4
Tactical Pith Helmet reacted to Rogerborg for a topic
What @Speedbird_666said. G&G Combat Machines have been around since forever ago, and while they offer very few features, all the parts work well together. Plastic, yes, but a really nice, light but strong plastic that feels decent in the hand. However, with the new prices on the G&Gs it's becoming harder to recommend them. Specnas, Double Eagles M9xx, and Lancer Tacticals offer way more features. The Edge 2.0 in particular offers good value for money over fitting an aftermarket Aster to just about any base gun. But then the Double Eagle Fire Control System has some (not all) of the same features for a fair bit less money. You'll be unlikely to regret a G&G CM16 purchase, but the answer is that there's no right answer, and whatever puts a smile on your face is the right gun for you.1 point -
hop questions
Rogerborg reacted to Adolf Hamster for a topic
the alignment can be very subtle, if you're looking down the barrel through the back of the hop unit you'll get a picture like this: left is misaligned and would curve shots off to the left, right is perfectly centered. of course you have to eyeball it based on the feed tube cos you can't cheat and add an imaginary line like i have on those images. a deformation in the mound of the bucking would do that, some do have intentional shapes (eg the pdi w hold looks like a normal bucking with a v cut in the middle), but it's possible for wear/damage to do something similar which if off-centre can affect the spin and hence cause curving.1 point -

IF (big IF - see what I did there?) the original hop is rubbish (not consistent, wonky shots etc etc) then yes, there is an advantage to using the ZCI hop unit. If the original works well and shoots straight then no, there isn't. No idea on the rubber as they usually go straight in the spares bin and I fit Maple Leaf or Prometheus rubbers instead.1 point -

It doesn't matter either way. There is no chance, absolutely none, that I'd pay more than sweetie money by F&F to some rando, despite him being ostensibly honest in the listing. Even if he does send out exactly what's promised, things can go wrong after that. And I don't get his objection. If you pay G&S, it'll either get to him, or it won't. If it does, what's the problem? If it doesn't, then he doesn't send the item. And I'm fine with paying the G&S fee - it protects me. Nope, avoid, it's just not worth the risk, or even a discussion.1 point

Umm...technology yes. Build quality?.....no. I would take the G&G plastic body over any Edge metal body and if out-of-the-box reliability was a primary concern, well, I would also choose the G&G for that too. (Source: I have a Specna Edge 1.0 and a G&G CM16 SRS). QC for Specnas has been notoriously poor (although many would say it's improving). On paper, the specs on the Specna Edge 2.0 look amazing. Reality is, you'll either end up with a good gun that works decent enough out of the box. Or you'll end up with a complete shit-show assembled by the Friday afternoon shift. I suppose you could say that for any Airsoft gun, but Specnas had a much higher lemon rate for some time**. My advice? Go to an airsoft shop (if you can) and fondle as many guns as you can. You will soon start to understand what RIFs make your bollocks tingle with excitement. Let's face it, 90% of RIF purchases are not 'sensible' choices, rather they are derived from what people find 'coolest'. ** The Specna fanbois will be along shortly to tell you that their gun is amazeballs.1 point -

I'm guessing you haven't played yet. If so I recommend you rent for the first few games, as this'll help you to get an idea of what suits your playing style. Also it means you get to see what others are using. Don't be afraid to ask about what others are using as most airsofters love to show off their guns Also if you get your site membership first you won't need to get a two tone (assuming you're over 18)1 point -

They could understand me fine in the middle of games so I don't think it was a heat of the moment thing. I didn't see it myself so I didn't see the marshals reactions, but before the last game before lunch everyone was gathered in the safe zone and we were told anyone who dry fires in the safezone, removes their eyepro in game or is caught ignoring test shots would be booted out. They were gone very quickly at lunch. Fully agree with the bouncer analogy1 point -

It is a lovely bit of kit, If only I could find some half decent Western revolvers to go with it. Speaking of which have you seen the new TM single action army? What would you recommend as a first gun? Budget around £100
Rogerborg reacted to Floperator for a topic
I mean I would have dealt with it by say at the morning briefing, "btw guys, this dude is running a sub-350 bolt action, don't come and cry to us if he shoots you at close range", but then I don't have to manage 60-odd players each with different gear and I can see the logic in not making exceptions for every quirky setup that comes along. There is a rule about not rapid firing DMRs, and so far I haven't seen anyone taking the piss in that regard. Oddly, though there is officially a 360 fps limit (with 0.20g) for AEGs and pistols, in practice they don't chrono pistols unless they are CO2. Fwiw I asked to chrono my ASG mk23 with and without 'silencer' just for my own peace of mind (because who wants to be that guy?), and was well under the limit. Plantation had no morning chrono at all, but there were chronos available and they did do spot checks through the day. That said I don't know how many they did, just that they checked me! I suppose it would be too much to ask for every site to have the same rules and enforce them similarly, but imo some of the 'range safety' aspects at least need to be more unified and up to a certain standard. Always thought it was a bit perfunctory how everyone gets the safezone safety briefing *after* they've been milling around the safezone for half an hour...You should get that on your way in the door, and mandatory chrono for everything with site-supplied BBs (The first site I went to did this). I was pretty horrified to read in another thread about a site where people were dry firing in the safezone, this definitely needs to stop. (So sorry to derail your thread OP)1 point -

Ok, in regards to my *cough cough* AEP, I’ve got a proper pistol now so that doesn’t matter. * I’ve read this read a while back and it was quite interesting, motivating me to not make the “fatal” decision (ok, don’t quote me on that, I know, it kinda depends and stuff) of buying a cheap sniper. Roger, how did your Well mb03 break? I’m interested to see how it happened but I bet the high power spring kills the plastic internals. *I’ve heard that a pistol as a first gun is bad but it’s too late, not sending it back! Also, I know a CYMA might last longer but I prefer the look and (how it’s supposed to) feel of the JG T3K1. Finally, you’d be glad to hear I got a refund on that piss-tol today.1 point -
