Even worse is it could be an m4 mag adaptor in it too, that or a drum. I'm not against the concept of a stocked pistol but tbh the carbine kits you get now seem the better alternative for practical usage.

for me it's either relatively short aka hipfire, or very long (aka i'm out of ammo and i'm just plinking at that point) but more important is how rarely i use a pistol at all, certainly with any serious intention at least.

could be a specifically bad batch they got? i mean airsoft qc is a lottery at the best of times. i very rarely use a pistol at all and when i do it's generally because my rifle's out and i can't be bothered going to refill mags. other than that maybe for a bit more free movement when hedgelurking but that's a one shot wonder kind of situation.

i beleive there's meant to be some argument for it being better for snap shooting, although i can't say i agree. if the dot has good parallax then it feels like having the window as close to the eye as possible to give the largest field of view is superior. of course the other reason on the ak specifically is that the gas block mounts are deemed more stable than a hinged top cover and the fixed top covers/siderail mounts can make access for maintenance a pain.

that's a red dot mounted to the rear sight block (the ad being for the mount that clamps onto the rear sight block on an aksu) whats odd as @alxndrhll correctly identified is the fact the front sight block is right against the trunnion. that's gotta be what, a 4" barrel tops?

that's the plan, the one on arnies goes into some decent detail, certainly enough for me to think the issues are manageable. always a case of context though, for example i don't mind if a pistol shits itself in winter so i'm happy with WE stuff but other folks would hate them for that.

Yeah maybe a dedicated project thread might be better. As for materials as with all airsoft guns "chinese pot metal" is the safest assumption so welding is probably gonna be tricky. Cant recall the charlton specifically but i thought it used the original bolt handle as a lug? Or am i thinking of one of the other conversions.

yeah, @Asomodai was saying a bunch of folks dont like it. took a look at the review on arnies and tbh a lot of the issues are stuff i can fix/live with. for my needs if i can slap a ml autobot in there and lob at least one magful of .32's before refilling i'm happy.
