Transition from S95 DPM to BTP / MTP
Ebeneezer Goode replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Belts and harnesses can be hit and miss, if you pardon the pun, as different setups suit different individuals. I also find the sizing awkward as I'm only 5'6". Personally the simpler the better, as I carry nothing else apart from 2-3 mags and some BBs, however other folks carry loads of low caps, grenades, gas, etc etc etc and so require much more complex storage solutions. I'd echo @Rogerborg's suggestion regarding "civvy" woodland hunting/fishing camo. Superb stuff. I use it for fishing, never skirmished in it but I'm a fan. -
Aaahhhhh, nostalgia. I'd recognise a Mk3 Fiesta any day of the week, regardless of how badly any owner had buggered up the bodywork with "upgrades". My first car. L-reg 1.1 Finesse in Java Blue. No power steering, airbags or ABS, overhead valve HCS engine with a mighty 49hp at full chat. Bloody marvellous. Was like owning a classic car. I still miss it. Anyway... a million likes for the above post. Nail, Hammer, Head...

Transition from S95 DPM to BTP / MTP
Ebeneezer Goode replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
DPM works best in evergreen forest, as that's what it was designed for (when the thinking was that the West would be fighting the Reds in Germany in between lobbing nukes at each others cities). MTP resulted from most of our wars being in Middle Eastern parts and reflects that. MTP is a better all rounder for the reasons you describe but that's not to say DPM isnt good. -
I have considered flash mags, although I am still tempted by the massive capacity of drums. May reconsider them if I can't get a drum though. Regarding compatibility the only issues I've had so far have been finding any Midcaps that work with the UAR. A well known problem. It happily takes any hicap I've tried however. Meanwhile My LT happy takes any mag I've tried so far. For all that folk slag off Lancer Tactical I've had no issues so far, apart from some odd behaviour that was down to a dirty hop. Same with the UAR, a much underrated design IMHO. Not everyone's cup of tea but no complaints here.

Thanks. Any feeding issues?

Looking at getting an M4 drum mag to use with my AEGs as I'm woeful at reloading (too much fumbling) and find winding hicaps a pain. My style of play is a bit of a mixture of providing support fire covering my team mates and assaulting the objective, so switching a lot between single shot and full auto. Any thoughts or recommendations? I can't use box mags as my main gun is a bullpup, sound control looks like a good idea and ideally something that takes rechargeable batteries.

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
Superb day at Tazball Airsoft near Inverness, met some great folk again and great gameplay all round. Frigging freezing cold but interesting dynamic playing in the snow. -
Yep, it was a wee green missile that used to shoot out of the 203. His sidearm was an M9. My kids sometimes play with my old Action Man stuff so I've found all these things all over again. There's also a tacticool MP5 with what looks like some sort of sight and a light below the barrel... see it all in a different light now. As much as I love sci fi, I also love the old school guns sans rail systems and all that fancy jazz that festoons "modern" builds. Nothing quite like a simple M16A2 or early M4 with the standard nonrailed handguard, or a classic AK. MP5A4 or Scorpion for that lean look. Pistol wise for me it's classic 1911 (non-MEU etc) or Deagle all the way. Will get lynched for this but I'm not a fan of Glocks, Hi Capas and the like...

Nice collection that ? The top one is my favourite. Always reminds me of plating with Action Man as a kid as that's what he used! All it would need is a nice big scope on the rail and it would be perfect.

Fieldcraft... ahh many happy memories as both an air cadet and subsequently as a CI teaching it. Great fun! And also very useful in skirmishes. Trying to blend in with your surroundings however generally helps. Turning up in grey joggers or a black boiler suit wielding a 2 tone will get you shot at, lots. I know, I've done it... haha. Hadn't come across Pencott before, very good. However the OP still hasn't given us any clues as to what they want to look like, leaving us all guessing. Everyone has different ideas of "essentials", I'd say if using pouches improves your game then absolutely go for it... although my reload times are still woeful, a good 20 seconds of clumsy fumbling on a good day. D'oh! Never mind John 117, I'm more like a clumsy blaster fodder Stormtrooper at the front of an Imperial boarding crew...

For tactical shirts and combat trousers, try local surplus store or amazon. You can make your own ghillie from camo netting and other materials, there's tutorials online. In terms of looking "organised and professional", you'll need to be more specific. What are you trying to achieve looks wise? Keep it practical, don't just spaff shedloads on fancy kit, it needs to be practical and comfortable. Really all you need is eyepro, a gnu and BBs if you want to break it down to basics... the rest is sort of for looks. Assuming you're at a woodland site, some sort of camo is a good idea. Brown, Khaki, OD or any camo pattern like DPM, woodland, MTP or the Jack Pyke style hunting/fishing pattern is great to make you blend in. Don't wear black as it stands out a mile...

Seriously, that's one of the best ghillies I've seen around. I've got a Chinesium one off eBay, a mate got it and gave me it as he wasn't a fan. Never used it as it has a weird fishy smell, it's a bit big for me (as in chuffin massive) and I'm not a sniper anyway - don't have a sniper rifle and I prefer to be mobile. However, makes me tempted to try. Maybe sell the M4 and buy a nice SL8 or summat... ...nah, actually scrap that. Mrs. Eezer Goode would flip her shit if I bought any more airsoft stuff... -

Yep. A bit like trying to punt a car that keeps breaking down. Except you're asking almost full price for it. "Don't worry mate, it only needs a new clutch. And three tyres. And a cylinder head gasket. And the sumps leaking, but if you top it up every day you'll be fine. The timing belts due in a couple of thousand miles Oh, and the aircons pumped as well. And did I mention the back speakers are iffy and cut out now and again? Now you mention it, the tappets are a bit rattly. All easily fixed though, honest mate..." Anyone with half a brain would run a mile. Regardless if it's a 10 year old Honda Accord with the above maladies, a Boeing 737 with 100000 flight hours on the clock on the service of an African airline with a dubious maintenance regime, a washing machine that sounds like a Apache on takeoff or a Lancer Tactical M4 that is hopelessly pumped for *insert bullshit reason here*, if it's almost full RRP but in any state of unserviceability, you need yer heid looked at if it's what constitutes a "bargain" or some sort of attractive deal. -

Yeah, probably. Many "upgrade projects" end up, after stupendous amounts of spaffed wonga, time and swearing/elevated blood pressure, with a fooched or wonky gnu, which inevitably ends up being punted under the "boneyard" guise. Speaking as an electronics engineer, I'd eye any boneyard item "probably just needs a fuse" or other supposedly simple fix with extreme wariness, as in my experience invariably simple fixes are rarely simple. The basic logic being a) if it was simple someone would have sorted it by now anyway, and b) there are likely other, more major gremlins lurking within to cause much frustration and drain cash. -

This time of year does see a surge in thieving conning scamming gits generally. Not surprised airsoft suffers the same. There's so many enthusiasts keen to spend their dough on the next best thing, and I can't be the only one who finds himself daily browsing retailers eyeing up new gnus or tac gear thinking ooh that would be nice despite having zero need or use for any of it. The saying about a fool being eager to part with his cash comes to mind. Airsoft is particularly bad IMO due to the whole "boneyard" concept pushed by retailers, selling fucked gear at almost full RRP under the guise of a "bargain" that "just needs repair". If it "just needs xyz" then feckin fix the thing before selling it... firstly its fucked/not to standard, secondly its not a "bargain" and thirdly it sets a standard for unscrupulous private sellers to con gullible keen idiots out of their hard earned. -
