Are these guns a stupid idea
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Hmmm, you say 'not much more' but there are none in stock, and the cheapest is £300 for an attractive carbine version, or £360+ for the full size one. So really it's not an option at the moment. -
I've got my Double Eagle M906C as my primary. I've got my TM AK-47S as my alternative. I've got my Classic Army M15A3 (M16 A2) as a ... something or other (It's not quite shooting straight, I'll raise another thread about that) But damnit, three guns isn't enough to stop me lusting after something else! Top of my current wish-list is the old Tactical Tuna itself, the F2000... £175 here https://www.socomtactical.net/cybergun-fn-f2000-aeg-black/ Several reasons for this gun as my front-runner My fave gun in Battlefield 4. I'd need a stubby front grip and red dot sight to complete the look Cheap(ish) High-ish rate of fire (18rps) Can take my metal high-cap STANAG mags. I've got 5 already... keeps the cost down Next up is some variety of L85 £185 here https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/army-armament-r85a1-l85-sa80-aeg-replica-in-black.html (Allegedly this is basically the same as the much more expensive G&G version, and they're both likely to break - so might as well have the cheap one!) I got mildly obsessed with this gun back when I was 10, and in my gun books it was still the SA80 in 4.85mm. I really wish there was a version of that, as it looks really cool... Also takes my STANAGs. Downside is these things weigh too much. But hey-ho. And lastly (for the moment) some sort of Steyr AUG. Preferably a shortened version Yowzers, £130! https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/army-armament-r904-steyr-aug-cqb-version-in-olive-drab.html I'd rather have a rail than the integrated optic though, so more likely... £115(!) https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/army-armament-r901-steyr-aug-bb-gun-in-black.html or if I'm feeling flush and can blow £280 + extra for mags, then good ol' TM High Cycle... https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/tokyo-marui-high-cycle-steyr-aug-airsoft-gun-aeg-black So yeah, I'm a bit of a fan of bullpups, and actually all 3 of these are amongst my most-used in Battlefield 4 so I have a strong affinity with them from that. But are they too sh*t to actually contemplate buying? Are there gotchas I should consider that should stop me from making an impulse purchase of a cheap one (of any make) from the Classifieds? (I was actually expecting to pay £170+ for any of these, so the cheap AA ones were a big surprise - feel free to suggest other manufacturers!)

I've not skirmished with the Turnigys yet... just a bit of plinking with the 30% charge they were shipped with. With the anti-Nuprol feeling in these forums (manifested quite recently against their batteries, iirc) then there's every chance the Turnigys will out-perform the Nuprol, but I'm absolutely not an expert, and my experience is very limited. But from what I've read I'm not expecting a great deal of longevity (in terms of cycles) from the Turnigys. The 'nano-cell' technology is marketed as more robust in the short term but long-term reviews are 'meh'. But at £8 a throw... I'm not too bothered. -
Blimey, that particular beast is ... £40 At that price point I'd fear it's the gun. However it is a Cyma AK, and so by the Law Of All That Is Airsoft, a Cyma AK is infallible! The only connectors typically used in airsoft are the Tamiya ones you mentioned (either big or small), and Deans connectors which have two connectors arranged in a 'T' shape. It sounds like you have the second type. Does it look like one of these? At the price you paid, I'd have expected a NiMH and a very simple wall socket charger with Tamiya connectors on gun/charger/battery, but it sounds like they've given you a new battery with Deans, or as you say a 'custom' type. So for the The two batteries The charger Please give us pics

New addition to the battery family... a couple of Turnigy Nano-tech 11.1v Li-Po's, 1200mAH. Having bought a Titan that I expect to power any of my guns all day long, it was a bit silly buying them, but I couldn't resist seeing what the extra Rate Of Fire would be like. Yeah, it's fun And these particular batteries were disposably cheap at less than £8 each. (HobbyKing). As I found my old ammo can I've got somewhere decent to store them in, so I'm a little less nervous about having Li-Po's in the house. I made a pic with the other batteries, because I'm constantly impressed by the shrinking size of the batteries these days. This new one is just 130x20x16mm My old 9.6v NIMH brick and the 600mAH stick show how far things have come. -

Re the Negative Airsoft video... someone helpfully put the times in for each segment in the top pinned comment, so you can jump straight to each manufacturer -
I messaged the seller, asking "please don't sell this to people who might use it at an airsoft game"... New message from: airsoft987 (7,004) ok. This item was ended. Phew!

4.Made of high strenth/tough materials. That suggests 'plastic' to me. With some bad typo checking! So hopefully they originally had 'transparent' and it got chucked out of whatever translator they used as 'glass'

I'm a guy who subscribes strongly to the idea of 'suppressive fire'. I got quite a few kills on my last game when I was spamming shots at an obvious location and people would either peek into it or jump out from it. And the rest of the time I like to think I'm stopping them from using a good firing position to shoot at my team. Also - I've paid good money to be there, I'm damn well going to fire my gun as much as I can - it's fun Firing lots of single shots and 3-5 round bursts I estimate that I used around 1500mAH worth of juice (at 7.4v) for a full day's play on Sunday (one Li-Po emptied, plus a bit from my Titan which I wasn't sure was working ok, so was my backup). I used up a bag and half of BB's, so between 4,000-4,500 BBs in that time. It's good to hear the Li-Po storage thing can be abused somewhat. I can't find my old 7.62 ammo can to store 'em in though, just using a Quality Street tin at the moment. I suspect that'd melt pretty quickly in the worst case scenario ?

At 3000mAh you're just needing to buy one Li-Ion battery rather than two Li-Po's. So there's that. On the downside... where can you get one for £35? Seems to be £45 at Land Warrior, or Airsoft Anonymous (out of stock)? And at 20cm I don't think it'll fit in the buffer tube. Not with the wiring to contend with as well. (But you've got the 908 crane stock, so you may be luckier than me in that regard. You can certainly opt for the nunchuck version instead) Next is the 'Li-Po' vs 'Li-Ion' quality of life stuff... You can't store a Li-Po with much charge in it. If your charger does discharging down to a storage voltage then you're ok. My ASG smart charger doesn't have that, so I've either got to buy a different charger, or find another way to ensure my battery is run down to its minimum level.

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
RostokMcSpoons replied to ModernTimes's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I would say that while some here say 'pockets are fine' I had a couple of 'interesting' situations where I just couldn't swap mags within the same calendar month. So a belt / chest rig with a least a couple of mag holders would be on my essentials list. Preferably the plastic shell type, or with a metal insert, so you're not even fiddling with retaining cords etc (but not losing mags either). You could refer to my "will my webbing wobble thread" -

Watch the Sweary Man (c)(tm) dissect each manufacturer here: Skip the first 3 minutes. It's long and there are lots of Naughty Words. But as a tech he'll give you an idea of how good each company's products are. (He likes Cyma and Double Eagle at the cheaper end, but there are some other manufacturers I know sod-all about that he rates too, and they might actually be in stock) -
Is the "Specna Arms SA-C25 - CORE PDW AEG" a good choice?
RostokMcSpoons replied to ModernTimes's topic in Electric Guns
Yeah that's a good choice. I've just been through the same journey as you, ending up buying a Double Eagle M906c... you could search for my threads, if you're a masochist ? I'm actually keeping an eye out on the Black Friday sales as I would like to pick up a bargain backup gun. Your choice did catch my eye again yesterday, but it's still at full price. Very nice gun though and was in the running when I was originally looking. Now the interesting thing is Patrolbase actually have the M906 marked as a Black Friday deal at £120/130 which would be an absolute steal. (and it would piss me off somewhat as I paid £40 more) It's still at 'OOS' but why lower the price when it's been like that for a few weeks? Are they going to reveal some stock on the day? Worth keeping an eye out for that! -
Yeah fair enough Druid. I shall resist the small temptation to try this 'experimental' 11.1v battery in one of the two old guns and just try it in the DE Btw with its MOSFET, does that add some extra protection? I might use my M16 as a base for some experimentation, either going dmr, or super shorty.. plenty of room to add a MOSFET, would it be worthwhile? (If there's more than a simple answer to that I'll chuck that question in to a separate thread)

Battery / cabling woes - any ideas?
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in General Help
I'm not sticking my tip in there for anyone! Yub yub kersnip! On a slightly more serious note, I got a new set of connector leads for my charger (to dodge my dodgy soldering on the original set). As I used the Titan it a little on Sunday, I decided to top it up. I expected a good few minutes of charging to do that, so when it took *seconds* I suspected the worst. I got my battery monitor on it, and sent the readings off to Titan to confirm its charged and healthy. They replied very quickly. With S1 = 4.20v and S2 = 4.21v, I'm (allegedly) "fine and dandy". Which means the two or three hundred bb's it powered on Sunday were merely scraping the icing off a big 3000mAH cake! -

Excellent. I'll order it. I looked for some helping hands but mostly at the cheap end of the spectrum there are plenty of "it's rubbish" type of reviews, so didn't bother. I bodged something with a small vice, and a lump of wood and some blu-tack when I was doing this previously. Not great but better than stuff just loose on my desk Yowzers, 6 secs 0-60! Speedy! It's a bit pricey for me though, I think I'll stick with life in the bus lane -
Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger

As a curious bystander who doesn't know about the AR latch, I googled and found this: ... is that what you mean and is it useful? -
Yeah, but that's with their 'full fat' spring giving > 400fps. The problem is over-running the gearbox when there's less resistance from our namby-pamby 310fps (when new) springs. So that's why Patrolbase etc recommend the 7.4v instead. I'm sure there's a degree of 'CYA' in that, but it makes logical sense. The good news is the empirical evidence suggests the DE internals are well put together and can cope (at least for a decent time) So 11.1v is not a terrible idea. In fact with all this talk of the damned things I've just ordered the cheap 11.1v 1200mAH Nano-Tech from HobbyKing (slightly different version from the one I'd seen that triggered my previous post), because it's a stupendously cheap £11 delivered, so I'm going to try it. And I could do with an extra spare battery so why not. As I said to Jake though, I've got a couple of guns that'll fill in if the DE dies on me. As he's just got one, it's a slightly different equation. I seem to be fairly unlucky with my kit, I may be being unreasonably risk-averse (Here's the cheapo battery: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-1200mah-3s-15-25c-lipo-airsoft-pack-t-connector.html)

Battery / cabling woes - any ideas?

My soldering iron is also from Maplins and just has a very pointy tip to it. It is a pain to get heat into anything other than the solder itself. I'll buy a better one off eBay or Amazon edit: is this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Preciva-Temperature-Adjustable-Electrical-Maintenance/dp/B08CKXJMKT/ref=sr_1_12 good enough? That includes multiple tips, a stand, tweezers, the de-solder pump... and a multi-meter for the princely sum of £17.50 -
This afternoon I found hobbyking had a tiny lipo 11.1v stock battery that still is 1200 mAH, and just a tenner. It's due to be back in stock at the end of the month. With your vote of confidence in the DE internals I'm sure I'll buy one and give it a go

Glad you're getting your gun sorted, and patrolbase haven't let you down For the BB weight, I was pinging .28's around yesterday like a good 'un, had to make some fine adjustments to dial down the hop in the middle of a fight to get the best traectory so hops those with ease. And I've shown it'll lift 0.30s at short range in my smallish garden, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could go to 0.32s if you wanted to. But if you're mostly going CQB then go with ... whatever is best value?

I've got some heat shrink tubing already (came with some cheap extra Deans connectors I bought), but with these AMASS connectors it's not needed, the plastic shroud takes care of keeping the bare parts of the wires isolated: edit: 5 pairs male / female connectors for £7 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Non-slip-T-style-Connector-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B08RTWV8G5/ref=sr_1_8 -
Battery / cabling woes - any ideas?
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in General Help
Those pics prove I'm clueless then, cos I can't see much difference! There's a few stray strands of copper in one of the bad images, but I was well aware to avoid chance of short circuits so I kept it as tidy as I could with as little exposed wire as possible. I've bought one of those multi-adapters to banana plugs off Amazon to use on my charger. But I'm intending to change my Li-Po and two Nimh batteries to Deans so I've still got some soldering to do! Oh yeah, regarding the pics of my existing soldering... I found taking the AMASS shroud off the Deans on the charger cable was hard work and involved a couple of pairs of pliers and some physical force. I'm not going to do that to my AK as the leads are very short, there's not much room to work with, and it's working fine already. The charging cable one.. ok, hands-up looks like I didn't do so well. One of the wires was secure, but more 'on top' of the solder rather than buried under it. Looks like that was the issue.
