  1. Silly question perhaps... when people are selling gear or showing off loadouts, I see a lot of magazines with tape around them in 'non-Tactical' colours... Is that just for ease of identification so you can spot yours if someone else picks one up? Or is to more easily spot them if they're on the ground? Should I be doing it too? (yub yub, fnarrr fnarrr) How often does it actually help???
  2. Well after yesterday's travails, I have to give UPS (grudging) respect for delivering my parcel on time, ringing the dell bell and knocking on the door nice and loud. So although he didn't wait for me to open the door before sodding off in a cloud of dust, it arrived safe and sound One FMA Short Vertical Grip installed, after a bit of futzing... the m-lok bolt was too short so I had to countersink the hole from inside the grip to give it the necessary wriggle room. But damn, it's nice! Just what I wanted. A bargain at £8, it gives me true BF4 vibes! and my Titan 7.4V 3000mAH Li-Ion stick battery fits perfectly in the stock... No perceived difference in either trigger response or RoF from my 7.4v 1500mAH Big Foot 25c Li-Po. A couple of bags of Longbow 0.28g bio bb's complete today's haul from Airsoft Anonymous. These seem quite highly rated from a couple of reviews I've read, and reasonably priced at £12 per 3000.
  3. Cool gun ? Can I ask a couple of questions? I've seen a couple of reviews meeting that the gearbox doesn't seem to have much lube in it, when it's fresh out of the box. Did you find that, and if so was it bad enough that I should get mine cracked open and lubed as a priority? Also, what FPS did you get before the spring change? I'm going to get mine chrono'd on Sunday for the first time, I imagine it's going to be comfortably under the limit, but I wouldn't want any surprises!
  4. My airsoft day has been shit. UPS delivered me a couple of bags of BBs, a new foregrip, and a Titan battery. But didn't bother themselves ringing our loud doorbell, just left it out front instead. So some thieving git nicked it all. Arse. Edit:. Blimey. AirsoftAnonymous sent me an email at 9pm (which I've only just read) to let me know UPS made a bollox of their status updates, so it's not actually been delivered and then nicked after all! Huzzah! So it's now a good day ?
  5. Note that the idea of writing cheques is not something The Youth Of Today really understand ???
  6. I'm mid 50's, still playing football three times a week with a mix of ages. After gaps due to injury or Covid lockdowns I've come back to games struggling for fitness (and breath), wanting to try out that "walking football" malarkey (I hasten to add that extreme response wasn't actually required! Fitness returns after a few games) As for 'duty of care', well I could quite easily suffer a heart attack on the pitch and that'd be it. I accept that risk, and it seems the council (who runs one set of the pitches I play on) are the same. The benefits outweigh the risks. They have an on-site defibrillator, which is great, but never prohibit people from playing. Airsoft isn't quite as hard work as football, so I think the bar for protecting us oldies from ourselves can be a fair bit lower. (Or is it higher?) I'm more worried about twisting my ankle. Luckily we have a stretcher used in one of the 'rescue the pilot' games at SpecialOps, so it's there if I need it
  7. Are the dust cover caps on scope turrets a standard size? Are they available for sale anywhere? I need some replacements for an old Viking air rifle scope, the thread is 22.4mm diameter, if I measured it right.
  8. https://www.ant-supplies.uk/ I bought some 20mm / 1" scope rings from here for the princely sum of £6 I bought an M4 armourers tool for £6 as well The main thing is not so much the cheap scope rings, it's the fact they do loads of bits and pieces, but don't charge for the p&p. So if you want something small and cheap you won't get bombed with a £5 courier fee on top. They do general shooting / hunting stuff, so there's not a whole lot of specific Airsoft kit in there, but it is worth a poke around if you want a hat or a sling, or survival kit. Edit... Flip up optics lens shield for £6
  9. A few little bits and pieces have turned up in the last couple of days... The sling was from Action Hobbies' bargain bin. Bought on a whim, it's pretty good. It'll get replaced by a QD 2-point sling eventually. The scope mounts are a bargain from Ant Supplies. Delivered very quickly, free p&p. I decided these mounts are too low, so I straight away ordered some extra tall ones, £6.50 (I've got a decent red-dot, but fancied using that old 4x32 scope I've had since I was a kid, to see how it plays) The M4 tool came from Ant Supplies too. Thought it'd be useful to have when I'm futzing around with my old CA M15. The Kombat UK holster is pretty decent for a cheapo. At least if fits on my Molle properly, unlike the belt loop one I had before that I had to lash in place with paracord. The BB Pouch was also bought on a whim... it'll be useful if I keep running hi-caps, perhaps even more so if I go ahead with buying mid-caps. And last, and perhaps least, the Project Airsoft stubby grip. Hmmm... 3D-printed rather than moulded, not what I really expected. It fits fine, but just looks cheap close-up. The grey grip tape is so fierce it can do double duty as a sanding block, but I guess it'll grip into my gloves (and perhaps shred them). The best thing about is - I'm now sure I want a vertical grip on my gun - so I'll go and buy this one from Airsoft Anonymous I got a couple more bits from Project Airsoft that aren't in the pic (as they're small and wouldn't show) - a high-cap mini funnel device, and a M92 gas mag 'thumb saver'. The funnel will work, but I'll probably lose it. The M92 doesn't fit my M9 mag (but probably will with some filing)... and I'll probably lose that too!
  10. That's great to hear! I would normally have been playing today but I crocked my ankle playing football so I'll just be pootling along to the site to pick up my other guns from the tech at lunchtime. Hopefully I can ping a few shots at the range and get the hop dialed in ? I spent a while yesterday messing around with my kit. I fixed a couple of minor annoyances: I put a couple of velcro stickers inside the stock tube that stopped it from rattling at all (but I will buy that PTS EPS stock in the future), and another in the mag well to reduce the play there. Job done. Would like to reduce the small rattle of the right side selector switch too, but the bolt is already tight I've found a single point sling in the bargain bin at my local retailer which I'll be picking up soon. It's just got a loop to wrap around the stock tube, not sure how effective it will be... might be a fiver wasted but I do like trying my luck!
  11. Cheers, it's woodland with some sort-of cqb 'villages' where we change to single shot. Most of the longer range stuff feels like 20-30, occasionally 40m, but at partial targets - sometimes through a bit of light brush - so accuracy and momentum the key things there! I've had a dig around in my kit box, I found a bag of 0.30s in there I thought I'd already used. And a bag of leftovers which could be anything from 0.20s to 0.28s. Maybe even a pick'n'mix of all 3 weights. Anyway, I'll see if I can lift the 0.30s in the garden.. should be an interesting test! edit: Yes, it'll over-hop .30s. That's the stock rubber that's had probably a hundred rounds through it, at room temperature, at 20m range. Geoff's .30g Bio Natural Precision BB's. Operated by a non-expert user Now obviously I may have so much hop wound on at this point that the fps might be unusably low, and I definitely saw some variability in the trajectories (though that's perhaps down to the new hop rubber, and the newness of the gun as a whole, and me only firing a couple of shots at each setting, with a battery that probably needs a recharge) but it's definitely lifting them successfully. I'll probably order a big bag of 0.28s just to play it a little safe, but when I'm at the site next I'll try to get a chrono reading with the 0.30s Absolutely loving the look and feel of this, and the binary trigger... lurrrrrrvly!
  12. As I'm going to run mine stock at least for a couple of games, can someone recommend the best BB weight to use... I'm thinking .25g to make sure it can hop 'em in cold weather, but of course I'd like to go heavier if it'll work...?
  13. Cheers guys - but actually MPA airsoft sell pre-cut poly discs from 25mm up, as lens protectors. I had identified them as the best source, but the p&p was a bit much for something that could go in a letter envelope. So I pooh-poohed it. "Never pooh-pooh a pooh-pooh". Useful advice, I'm sure you'll agree. Anyway, turns out Nunfa1 is calling in there today and has offered to pick up a couple for me and post them on. Top chap!
  14. Cheers I've already got a full length M16, so had to get away from that. I was initially going for the PDW / CQB stubby, but this feels a good compromise now I've got it in hand
  15. I did buy it back in the days when dinosaurs walked the earth How much are real ones (like mine) worth now? Maybe I could trade down and fund a new pistol Edit: blimey, I just did a google and the new gen version is £400. I might take it back off and wrap it in swan's down... before depositing it at Fort Knox I'm certainly not going to skirmish it again until I can find a 27mm polycarbonate disc to use as a lens protector! I've got the box in front of me, it was made in 2002
  16. Double Eagle M906C... Yay! Stuck my Kobra red dot on top, because... it's the only red dot I have, but it's cool Notice how Double Eagle can't spell "Marksman" as I guess that's what they wanted to say. Either that or they're great advocates for safety on, and off the field ? First impressions... yowzers! Plugged in a 7.4v 25C lipo via the supplied Tamiya connector and it's shooting very nicely. Will look forward to trying an 11.1 in there. I've just pinged a few shots into my garden so no real idea on accuracy / range / hop etc but all good things, eh? The main thing is it just feels great, so pleased!
  17. Yeah, please keep us updated with the actual results if you do that, as sticking a mock silencer over a long barrel is exactly what I intend to do if I feel out-ranged I do like the look of a suppressor on guns, but only want to do it if there's a tangible gain!
  18. Stock of the 907 models seems to have disappeared at Patrolbase this morning, and the 906's have dropped to just the C version. There are still a selection of 904's but given how quickly the situation changed, their DE stock coverage might well be 'wide and shallow', if you catch my drift. So, damnit, I've been pushed into a corner! I HAD to buy one before someone else got there first! Tell the wife it was a GOOD reason I had to spend the money! M906C on the way tomorrow (I just refreshed the Patrolbase page, I may have nabbed the last 906, there are just two of the longer M904's and a pricier M908 left)
  19. There not much finer recommendation of a gun than buying a second variant of it...!
  20. Two versions have sold out now. Please everyone, stop saying how good they are until I've bought one ??
  21. I've not. The cheapest 906 has now sold out (e version) so I'm now at £170. Seeing as that's very close to the 907 prices I can go for one of those if the 6's sell out. The problem is my wife, frankly ?. If a big box turns up when she's around, she will know I've been spending and there'll be some 'sub-optimal scenarios' started. Or she doesn't see it, then she'll never know the difference to the bank balance (she never has the faintest clue unless I tell her), and she won't tell the difference with my other guns, I'd be fine. But sods law dictates the courier will turn up when I'm in a meeting, and she's home from her part time work, and she'll open the door to it! The alternative approach is I sell a guitar and can point at a wodge of cash I've raised. That will take a week or two though. And I'll have to say goodbye to a lovely guitar ?
  22. I am so very close on buying a DE M90... something. It's probably going to be one of the metal bodied versions, so 906 upwards, as they're starting at £160 at Patrolbase right now. But I need a final bit of advice: I'm looking at the DE site, and the Patrolbase info, and I'm struggling to understand the differences between the 906/907/908 series. I can see there are different barrel lengths, and slightly different flash hiders and rail styles... but is that it? The M906E is cheapest at £160, the M908A the most at £230... that's a big price difference - are they really just cosmetic differences, or is there more to it than that? Hmmm, talking of barrel lengths, I liked the idea of a compact gun, and I was looking at some of the really stubby PDW-style carbines before, but as I have a feeling this is going to be my primary for a while - should I take one of the longer barrel options for woodland combat? Does extra barrel length equate to better effective range on these guns?
