Well that's a question I should have asked as I had poor compression with my new silent piston head, then had the piston head come away from the piston (hadn't loctited it) and so put a standard piston and head in to the gun. Which then promptly ate the piston. So I'm going to say yes, my personal experience is that using mismatched heads fucks up the AoE. It might not be that... But it seems likely

I used to be the guy looking over the top of my red dot to watch the BB flight, but with the DE m906 its accurate enough to aim for first shot kills.. so I do. Now I use the sight all the time... And last weekend i was using the one off the Tippmann on the DE Sights do have to be properly zeroed otherwise they are just a distraction

Yes a v2. Very solid, it's a nice bit of kit! It was a bit more than you paid, but on top of the line and small tank I also got a hard case, a suppressor, long metal m-lok handguard, a stubby grip, an angled grip, a Walther red dot sight, and most importantly a small scuba tank with heavy duty line to resupply my air from. But sadly all the extras in the world don't quite make up for the fact the gun isn't shooting correctly, so I've not used it on the field yet. I'm really looking forward to getting it sorted though!

You'll love shooting the Tippmann, it's got a nice recoil and plenty of sound to it, it's a world away from the typical HPA gun. On the downside, personally, my (second hand) gun is not running properly at the moment - the muzzle velocity is way too variable. I'd be really interested to hear how a new gun shoots - so can I ask you chrono it to see how stable the muzzle velocity is, and what sort of groupings and range you can get? Just so I have a baseline for mine to compare with. Cheers

Sound amplifier for a wannabe Firehawk owner

Sound amplifier for a wannabe Firehawk owner
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
So short story shorter, I'm buggered. Cos there's no way I'm touching the internals of my DE or TM AUG HC, because I want them to carry on working like they do now. So cylinder swaps are out of the question. I will try it on the aug tomorrow, just in case that works better, but I can't imagine it's over-volumed either. Ah well. £12 poorly spent but not the end of the world. I'm having a clear out sale of kit soon, it'll be in there! -
This is sort-of harking back to that brilliant "show me where the G&G Firehawk touched you" pic/meme, I would have posted to that thread if I could find it... but it was pretty good timing as I just received a King Arms sound amplifier that I bought from Socom Tactical's boneyard section. I have to say I'm a disappointed. Basically it sounds no different to having nothing on the gun at all (I tested with my Double Eagle M906, 0.20g BBs at ~330fps I think) Whereas the Firehawk is a head-turning 'crack' with every shot. My plan was to get something similar to to aid in suppressing when I'm running at the enemy - where have I gone wrong? Is the King Arms amp in the boneyard because it's... rubbish? Is the Sound Hog on eBay worth a go? Are all amplifiers rubbish - except the one fitted on the Firehawk (and presumably tuned to the barrel length, air volume etc)...? (And why do all videos of amps - even the Firehawk - make them all sound weedy... is it video encoding / compression / Youtube protecting our delicate lug-holes? It makes reviews of amps a bit pointless)

Yes, but it's been done with class, people usually name-drop Hitler rather than Pliny when doing it on other forums ?
-
Yup, here you go...
-
Not seen anyone else complaining of that issue on any gun tbh Have you taken it apart to see what's happened? Have you cleaned the barrel recently, is there any chance you did that with hop applied, and it's split the rubber?

Oh damn it, another gun I 'must' have.

M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Initial tests of the Lonex flash mags that arrived this morning are... good! They fit and feed fine in the Tippmann, they're a little tight in the Double Eagle (but that has a velcro shim to make my cheap old high caps fit nicely) but shoot perfectly, and they fit fine in the F2000 and the L85 as well... (though I can't test those as neither of them can actually pew at the moment) -
The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Four Lonex 360rd flash mags just arrived.... But there have been a few other recent purchases in the last month-and-a-bit that are knocking about now... Yeah, I may be showing signs of addiction -
M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Well that's got to be good news for me! I did order the STANAGs, so fingers-crossed I can add Tippmann, Double Eagle, Cybergun, Classic Army and Army Armaments to your list -
M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Well I can't rationalise it but I went on the Lonex website last night and ordered 4 flash mags. They're on special offer, but 4 is at a tiny discount compared to the other options, so I bought 3 + 1 (only to realise afterwards 2 x 2 is slightly cheaper still) I'll try one. If it doesn't work nicely with at least the DE and the Tippmann, I'll at least be able to return the other 3 and I can sell the 'used' one on. Oh yeah, there's another gun arriving soon that these ought to fit... Edit: another gun has just arrived... and unexpected items in bagging area: with 2 more hi cap magazines! One standard size Battleaxe, one longer G&G. It'll be interesting to test those two later. (This gun doesn't fire at the moment, its a boneyard so it'll most likely stay as a wall-hanger, to satisfy the SA80 itch I've always had. But I'll have a go at fixing it) -
M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I'm not fussed about covering them in tape, I think it's the opposite problem where they are too tight or the damned things don't sit high enough. Ah damn it. I'll buy a bunch of mags and send them back under Distance Selling regs if need be -
M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons posted a topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I lost a mag at the skirmish site on Saturday, so I bought another. Does it work? Does it buggery. And I'm talking about two different AR's I tried it in. The common theme seems to be the standard short 300-330 round high high caps will work fine in my Double Eagle M906, my Classic Army AR15, and my Tippmann M4... and even my F2000 (back in the distant past when it actually fired) But the longer mags seem to cause problems (excepting the F2000 which came with one of them) - the other guns instantly become (as my step mother says) "Fussy whiskers". Either they won't accept the mag nicely into the mag well, or they don't feed consistently. So what's the story with M4 mags? And should I abort my intended purchase of Lonex flash mags, because I suspect they'll be the same form? -
Sight - front lens protection
RostokMcSpoons replied to LeekSausage's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
There's a company called Red Dot Engineering who sell better front sight protectors on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/reddotengineering They use pellet-proof plastic, rather than the sacrificial stuff on those flip-up ones, and they'll 3D-print stuff to specific dimensions (to slip over the outside of the sight) I ordered a custom one for this Walther red dot, and apart from the fact it was a stupidly tight fit (I'd recommend adding 1mm to the required diameter), it's pretty damned good for £9. Very fast turnaround on it too. Also pictured the standard one they sell for the Amazon-special 'Coyote' sight. That's fits a bit loose, recommend gluing it in place or it'll get knocked off. -
One of those times when the camo really pays off... I was covering a flag point from there, I ended up chewing through more than 3 high cap's worth of ammo (much of it in semi) because it took so long for anyone to spot me and then get a decent shot at me

I've had another look at the hop rubbers, to do a bit of 'forensic analysis' The original one has that slightly folded lip that caused the curving is otherwise undamaged. It looks like a Macaron Yellow, for reference, so quite soft. The cheapo one I replaced it with, which feels as hard as nails and could probably survive WW3 (which might be handy), is completely pristine. The Guarder Clear looks 'unhappy'. So yeah the nozzle might be 'doing something' to the rubbers, but hopefully it's a matter of fine margins. Rather than trying to shim the nozzle, could I shorten it a tiny bit? I put the cheapo hop rubber back in. It might not be soft enough to hop heavy BBs, but it ought to keep a good air seal. And things are getting 'interesting' in that I've dialled out the Dwell Mod grub screw, and with that I've seen the FPS reach as high as 380. But the consistency is still all over the place. I messed around with the hop (re-applying some) and the Dwell screw some more, and the last few shots got figures of 297-326. I've got the feeling I'm not a million miles away from it working properly... but I might need a new O-ring or something to make it happen.
-
When the 'bolt' travels forward, it goes up against a solid block that is effectively part of the upper receiver... I'm sure I could shim that in such a way as to back the nozzle off a little. The problem is the gun could eat quite a hop rubbers before I get it right ?

Sorry - somehow missed this reply - yes, it's the only site I've played at since returning to the fun'n'games, but I intend to give Finmere and Sentinel (The Outpost, nr Dunstable) a go, as they're both quite close too. I think m'wife will complain if I do this tooooo often though

Thinking about how I'm losing air, I wondered if there should be a barrel spring on my gun. So I've just pulled the inner barrel out. No spring, but then I've looked at the Tippmann M4 manual (for the v1) and there's no spring shown in the exploded diagrams. However, it did show I've got a damaged hop rubber. It seems the gun likes to damage the end of it... ... it's split a little on both sides. I'm not sure if that damage is enough to account for the low and variable velocity though. (The original rubber was deformed on the right hand side, creating a nub of material that made the BB's curve to the right) Is this a sign that the nozzle isn't aligning correctly? It does look very slightly low and to the left when viewed here: edit: I put the gun back together, but first I wrapped some PTFE tape around the hop rubber (at the muzzle end of it) My gun has had the 'dwell mod' done to it, so for shits and giggles I screwed that in a bit too. And when I chrono'd it (no hop applied now)... it's still variable. But perhaps a little better?

The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
Stonking day at special ops yesterday, beautiful weather, a more reasonable player count of around 60 people meant there was more chance to push, and reasonably balanced teams all added up to a good day Personally I had some tech issues.. I brought my new Tippmann HPA M4 along, expecting to actually use that for the whole day, but ended up not using it at all - instead the trusty Double Eagle M906c was my choice throughout. And I got a mountain of kills with it, thanks to it reaching out a decent distance and me getting in some good positions or just being outright reckless with some pushes with some hip-fire suppression as I attacked. Possibly my best day of Airsoft since I started playing again in November ☺️
